CCS: EZ430-RF2500 support for trace and function trace in CCS V7

Profiling/trace option are limited on MSP430, especially for your device. Your best option is the profile clock:

I tried the profile clock and followed the instructions on the video at the link you provided

It looks like this feature is not available: When I go to : Run -> Clock -> Enable , it is not possible to use it. The "Enable" is not in bold , it is not possible to activate it.

1) I am doing something wrong?

2) Any other possible way to measure cycles?

That is odd. I just tried with the same device and I was able to enable the clock. Can you provide a screenshot? Make sure the menu and also the Debug view are visible in the screenshot

That is odd. I see the option in my environment. Are you using the EZ430-RF2500 as shown in the link below (this is what I am using)?

Sorry for the delay. I'm not sure why you are having an issue with the clock when using the same kit as I am. I wanted to confirm that it is not the CCS version that is the issue hence I also tried with CCSV7.4, but now I am having hardware issues. I am looking for a replacement and will keep you posted

I can't seem to find a replacement. I know for sure that the clock worked with CCSv8.3. I can't remember for CCSv7.4. Any change you can try CCSv8.3?

8.3 is are current latest version and it is quite stable. You can install it in a separate new directory and have both 7.4 and 8.3 installed at the same time.

I have installed CCS 8.3 and now the "clock" feature (Run->Clock->Enable) is available

The clock seems to be working OK and is counting cycles

The problem is that it affects functionality! I am using the blink led example and it looks like the program is running 100 or 1000 times slower!

Is this something normal? A price to pay for using the clock?

Table 1. Emulation Module Overview in Advanced Debugging Using the Enhanced Emulation Module (EEM) With Code Composer Studio Version 6 shows that the MSP430F2274 doesn't contain a hardware Cycle Counter.

As a result, when the "clock" feature is enabled in CCS I think the program is stepped one instruction at a time, with the debugger then counting the number of cycles taken by each instruction. This would explain the slowdown when the "clock" feature is enabled.
