CCS/CCSTUDIO: Catalina Support

Part Number: CCSTUDIO

Tool/software: Code Composer Studio

CCS's installer isn't currently running on MacOs Catalina. Going out of Beta in a week, what is the status with CCS?

  • Michael,

We are currently testing with Catalina beta 6 and the installation is working fine.  We had also been hitting some other issues that thus far have gone away with beta 6.  There is now a beta 7 available that we need to try.

Thus currently things are looking promising for CCSv9.2 and Catalina but there is still a lot of testing that needs to happen.

    Regards,

    John

  • Thanks John, keep up the good work!

  • The Catalina migration is going to be an interesting one.  It will be the first one in a while that will require users to upgrade a lot of other software.  I am curious to see if it will slow adoption (which is typically very fast for macOS releases).  I might have to get a second Mac to keep my old versions of CCS on.

  • I have Catalina running off an external ssd. When copied to the ssd CCS seems to be running fine. It's just the installer that doesn't run.

  • I spoke with our team and with the 9.2 beta there are a couple things that you need to work around to install.  The first is adding execute permissions on the .sh file in the .app folder (chmod +x).  The second is related to the new notarization process Apple has.  You try to run the installer and macOS blocks it.  You can then go to your security settings and enable it.

The permission issue is addressed and we are working through the notarization process.  Depending on how long that takes we might release the Mac ccs image a little later than the windows and linux ones.

  • Just to provide an update.

We are still working on the notarization process for the install.  That is proceeding.  In addition to this Apple requires all binaries to also be notarized by Jan 2020.  This is a much bigger job that impacts many components.  We will be targeting that for CCSv9.3.0.

  • Hey John,

anything new concerning Catalina, is it worth it to give it a try with CCSv9.1? Catalina got released for the public a few days ago.

  • SPEEDBIRD,

CCSv9.2 is out as of this week.  That is the version that I would use on Catalina.  We have put the installer through the Apple notarization process.  Note that you still need to run xattr to remove the file form quarantine after you download it.  The instructions for that are in the readme file that is in the download.

    Regards,

    John

  • I wonder if your comment about needing 'xattr' might only apply to the web install version -- I believe I see saw success using the MacOS/Catalina off-line installer and never used 'xattr' (Downloaded off-line installer == ccs_installer_osx_9.2.0.00013.dmg).

  • Yes that xattr comment would be applicable to the web install.
