CCS/MSP432P401R: attempting energytrace with launchpad, broke the energytrace window

HI,

macosx 10.14.6, ccs v9, 432 launchpad blinkled_msp432 example.

I enabled energytrace in preferences.

I ran the code and the energytrace window displayed an exclamation point icon.

Any help?

    Hi,

    I can't reproduce this issue with both OSX 10.14.5 and 10.14.6. 

    Therefore, may I suggest you to follow some of the troubleshooting suggestions at the page below? Especially the ones at sections 9.4 and 9.7

    Hi,

     I attempted troubleshooting and got partial relief then unforgiving failure after the 3rd retry.

    My guess is an uninitialized variable that sometimes works, sometimes doesn't.

     How many runs did you try with the mac and launchpad, one or more than three?

    My tests:

     1. New day, rebooted mac. Entered project and immediately switched workspace before attempt -> It works. EnergyTrace now works for 3 runs,

    then then on the 4th run returns the null pointer exception (for the rest of the day - approximately one hour of retries that includes switching workspaces, deletiing and reinstalling workspaces, rebooting deleting and reinstalling workspaces - see below).

      New question: During the runs where EnergyTrace worked, I only saw "relative" scale not not "absolute" scale, I used "free run" to start the execution. Is this the right button to press to get absolute scale, or is there something else?

    After the first failure, there was no more success. To reiterate, I tried:

     2. repeated switching workspace after pointer exception -> fails with null pointer

     3. deleting the workspace and reinstalling from the ti cloud -> fails with null pointer

     4. rebooting, deleting the workspace, reinstalling from the cloud -> fails with null pointer.

    Hi,

    Thanks for the additional details; I have tested many boundary combinations here in my system but I could not make it fail to operate multiple times. I even tested other Launchpads with different EnergyTrace technologies (such as the LAUNCHXL-CC26X2R1 with HDR) to no avail. It is quite stable for me. 

    Could you try to update your copy of CCS with the latest TI Emulators component version 8.3.0.00003? You can go to menu Help --> Check for Updates.

    when I selected updates, none were found, so it must be already there.

    Hi,

    Most probably yes. To double-check, go to the "Code Composer Studio" menu --> "About Code composer studio" --> Installation Details.

    In the meantime, I will keep trying to "break" my system with the same scenario as yours. So far, no luck.
