CCS/MSP-FET: Error initializing emulator: JTAG/SBW speed configuration failed

Part Number: MSP-FET
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MSP-FLASHER

Tool/software: Code Composer Studio

Hi,

I have problem with MSP-FET Flash Emulation Tool Rev 2.05, Code Composer Studio V 8.2.0 and MCU: MSP430

Everything worked just fine until I accidently did firmware update for MSP430 Debug Interface.

To get rid of updated FW I performed "Cold Boot" and recovered MSP-FET.

No error or problem appeared during recovery but I am not able to debug the code anymore.

I am getting error: Error initializing emulator: JTAG/SBW speed configuration failed

Could you please help me solve this issue?

Thanks,

Miloslav

  • Hello Miloslav,

Did the original firmware become corrupted somehow or were you trying to revert to a different firmware version?

There are different JTAG/SBW speed setting available. This is customizable in the target configuration file advanced settings.  I think all should work, but I would try changing it to slow to see what happens.

You could also try a new or example project to see if somehow the project settings were messed up during this process.

Finally, you could try another interface program like MSP-Flasher and see it firmware can be downloaded that way.

    Thanks,

    JD

  • Hello JD Crutchfield,

I tried to change JTAG/SWB speed to slow as you suggested but I still have the same issue.

Original FW was not corrupted. Everytime during download of FW to MSP430 following initialzing error appears.

I always clicked "Ignore" and everything was just fine. When I accidently clicked "Update" I had to perform Cold Boot to be able to use MSP-FET for FW dowloading to MSP430. This worked with older version of MSP-FET. The one shown on the picture bellow.

But MSP FET Rev. 2.05 after cold Boot shows the error I described.

Project is fine. I can download the FW to MSP430 when I use different MSP FET.

    Thanks,

    Miloslav

  • Hey Miloslav,

I recommend updating the firmware when prompted by code composer to match with the version of CCS being used.  Typically, the issues I've seen are a result of power/connection being interrupted during the update.

When you performed the cold boot, were there any error messages int he firmware update?

Can you check for updates for MSP430 tools by going to help -> check for updates?  Please install those updates and retry the cold boot process.

    Thanks,

    JD
