CCS: CCS 9.2.0.00013 fails to run installer for TI ARM Compiler Tools 18.1.x

Tool/software: Code Composer Studio

After installing CCS 9.2.0.00013, went to try an install a TI ARM Compiler Tools 18.1.x release, by using Help -> Install Code Generation Compiler Tools.

CCS downloads the installer and then ask to restart to complete the installation. After a restart there is no sign of the installer running, and the selected compiler has not been installed in the ccs920\ccs\tools\compiler directory and this is not showing in Preferences -> Code Composer Studio -> Build -> Compilers.

Notes:

1. Have seen the issue when trying to install TI ARM Compiler Tools 18.1.4 and TI ARM Compiler Tools 18.1.6.

2. The same issue occurs with CCS 9.2.0.00013 under Windows 10 Pro and Ubuntu 18.04.

3. In the ccs920\ccs\eclipse\downloads directory there is an installer for ti_cgt_tms470_18.1.x

4. Looking at the logs in ccs920\ccs\eclipse\downloads and ccs920\ccs\install_logs I can't see any errors from an attempt to run the ti_cgt_tms470_18.1.x installer, it appears that CCS 9.2 doesn't attempt to run the installer.

5. Even though appears no sign that the ti_cgt_tms470_18.1.x installer was run, Help -> About Code Composer Studio -> Installation Details -> Installed Software lists the ARM Compiler Tools 18.1.x version.

  • Chester,

I could reproduce this with the ARM 18.1.6 and the MSP430 19.6.0 but not with the C2800 19.6.0.

I am still investigating this. There may be a chance the installers themselves may be at fault.

    Regards,

    Rafael

  • Chester,

I could verify this issue on several older releases of the compilers and on all OSes, but not on 19.x releases.

In this case, I filed the bug report CCDSK-3730. In about half hour, please check its status in the link SDOWP in my signature below.

As a workaround, you can simply run the installer that is correctly downloaded to the directory %CCS_INSTALL_DIR%/ccs/eclipse/downloads and point to the directory %CCS_INSTALL_DIR%/ccs/tools/compiler/ti-cgt-arm_<version numbers>

    I apologize for the inconvenience,

    Rafael
