Code Composer v4 licensing

I've been using CC4 (4.1.1) for a couple of years, and never been sure the license has been accepted - TI when asked just said don't worry about it. Now my code has exceeded 200K and I'm getting a compiler error. With TI support I've tried node-locking on another PC, and copying the license to a different location, all to no avail.

As far as I'm aware, I've never installed a code-limited free version, I installed off a DVD shipped when I purchased CC4.

I notice on one of these forums, someone says that CC should indicate the license status in the titlebar somewhere? Why doesn't TI support know about this?

  • Hi Alex,

can you provide further information?  Did you purchase a license?  What type?  What do you see on the bottom left?  Does CCS show "licensed", are you able to debug?  Or are you getting an error about code size being exceeded?  Can you send any details/info/screen captures?  What does Help->Licensing Options show?

    Best REgards,
    Lisa

  • I purchased the Microcontroller Edition in Jan 2010, and have been happily coding & debugging in the meantime, until my code hit 200K. CCS shows 'licensed" in the titlebar. Yes, a code size error once the code exceeded 200K. I'm currently downloading & installing 4.2 DVD edition as I suspect the 4.1 DVD edition Arrow shipped me must have been the code-limited version that isn't license-code upgradable. I'll try & attach my screenshot.

  • Hi Alex,

ok, please keep us informed how the new installation goes.

    Best Regards,
    Lisa

  • OK, so the CCS 4.2 Platinum Edition download works and compiles > 200K code. So why did TI ship me a code-limited version on DVD with my full version license file? Why don't TI Tech Support know about this issue?

  • Hi Alex,

very glad to hear installing the platinum version now has you able to continue and running.

I suspect the reason the microncontroller edition is shipped is to allow people to try the hardware and CCS.  Ie the free version is sent for people to evaluate and get started.

This has changed a lot with v5 in a couple regards.  First of all the code size limited version is the same download.  Ie with v5 there is just one version.   The other thing with that has changed is we are now based on unmodified eclipse.

CCS is free to download on the web, so you need not rely on material that is shipped should you choose not to.

Hope this helps and all the best with development.

    Best Regards,
    Lisa

  • Lisa,

I'm just surprised that the copy that shipped with a licence purchase isn't the full software - and more to the point no-one at TI appeared to be aware of this when I sought clarification back in 2010. In fact, TI tech support  still don't seem to be aware of this, I spent a lot of time today talking to them and messing around, it was only a Wiki comment & a hunch that lead to finding the solution.

I've got v5 on my home PC, and will try it for real once the project is at a suitably stable stage.
