Errors during CCS update, InstallJammer Registry.zip should be attached

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CCSTUDIO

I was updating Code Composer Studio from the "Help" menu item and it crashed and now when trying to run CCS I get a small window pop up that states "The Ccstudio executable launcher was unable to locate its companion launcher jar."

During the update a window pop'ed up stating I should send the zip'ed version of the InstallJammer Registry file ( which should be attached ) to this forum.

Please advise me as to what to do from here.  I have a customer deadline this week so please respond "soon"!

Tom

  • Tom,

We will take a look at the logs to see why it crashed during the update, but that probably caused your installation to get corrupted. The quickest solution for you would be to uninstall and do a clean reinstall of CCS. You can download the latest version 5.5 from http://processors.wiki.ti.com/index.php/Download_CCS

  • Tom,

From the install logs, the issue I see is that some files that were extracted to a temporary folder were not available when the installer went to use them. This could be due to an AV program blocking access to them, but it is hard to be sure. The quickest way to get going is as Aarti says. You can install into a separate folder if you wish (IE C:\ti2) and keep the original install for reference.

Can I ask what AV software you are using?

  • I'm using Norton 360.

OK, so I downloaded the "large" Code Composer off-line installation program ( using Google Chrome as recommended on the TI website as my default browser Firefox didn't work ), disconnected from the web before disabling my Norton 360, and then started the installation.  At the end of the installation when I click finish, the installation program repeatedly pops up the "Product Installation Summary" window ( with the "details" shown in the attached picture ) and does not close ( unless I click Cancel ), so it doesn't "Finish" I assume.

So how do you recommend I resolve having the two different versions of the "Modeldata Plug-in", as shown in the second attached picture?

Please reply soon, as I really need this working today!

    Thanks again,

    Tom

  • Tom,

I'm sorry you are running into issues. Could you clarify what happened at the end of the install? Specifically, it sounds like the installer reached the finish pane without errors. Then, when you clicked finish, CCS started and gave a bunch of error dialogs as attached. Is this correct?

Just before the error dialogs, did CCS pop up a dialog asking  you about enabling new products?

If I've got the sequence correct, I think CCS is correctly installed but had a problem enabling additional content that it found elsewhere on your computer.  When CCS starts, it looks in certain locations for previously installed versions of XDC Tools. If any are found, it asks if you want to enable them and then tries to do so. In your case, I think there is a dependency issue with the older version XDC tools and the older version would not be enabled.

Unless you need the older version, you are probably good to go.

  • The attachment should show what happened at the end of the install.  I tried to attach it to the last email, but I didn't see a way of attaching multiple pictures.

Looking at both of the attachments a bit closer, it appears the installer was trying to replace a more recent version of the "Modeldata Plug-in" of the XDCtools with an older version, so I tried just un-selecting it in the window in the current attachment and then the installation completes after I click on the Finish button.

So now, Code Composer Studio runs, as an new install and NOT as an update that I initiated from the previous version.  Consequently, I lost all changes I made to the CCS configuration and it took an additional six hours or so to just get my code to compile and link in trying to find the right settings and include file paths, etc...  I still don't know if I've gotten everything.  So is there a way, possibly to look at some old files from the previous version of CCS, where I can find how the previous version was configured and copy it over to this new version?  And as I mentioned before, the previous version doesn't run anymore as the update installation crashed, so I can't just run it and look at how it was set up.

I've updated CCS from verions 4.x to an earlier 5.x version and did not have this problem, even when running the Norton 360 software.  Looking at this forum page, it appears there are a significant number of others having this same problem on a daily basis.  Can't this get fixed to work as it has in the past?  Or at least, include a warning that TI will crash your version of CCS and you will loose all your previous configurations if you don't disable your Antivirus software first.  I've wasted days getting this fixed and conseqently missed a customer delivery deadline.

    Anyway, thanks for the help,

    Tom
