[CCS 3.3] Component Manager Error Message

Hello,

I just installed CCS 3.3 TMS320C2000 DSP Platform Edition together with a Spectrum Digital XDS510LC USB JTAG Debugger to program and debug a TMS320F28335 controller. When starting CCS, the following error message appears

After clicking OK, CCS starts without any further errors. If i try starting the component manager from the Help->About menu I get the same error message, but the component manager starts with an empty window:

I cant use any functions, e.g. clicking Tools->"Web Update now" doesnt do anything. The problem is, that I want to switch from Code Generation Tools V4.x to V5.x and for that task I need the component manager, right?

I tried updating to the newest service release 12, but that didnt solve the problem. I am using Vista Business 32 Bit, the following picture shows the CCS version

Thank you Ki,

but I dont know what to do with the information in the FAQ. I tried the following

1) Using the bak file, that means renaming the ccs_Compdb.ini.bak file to ccs_Compdb.ini

--> Didnt change anything, same error

2) Deleting both files

--> An error "opening Component Manager INI file"...okay...as expected. After clicking okay it shows me a "New Components Detected" with almost 17 components to chose from. All are seclected by default, so I clicked okay. After the next CCS restart, the old error is back

3) Compared the ini and the ini.bak using Beyond Compare

--> Only minor differences. The point "PlugInLst_GrpName" shows different order for its entries. And the point Registration stands before the point AutoLaunch. I think nothing important, huh?

It would be very nice if you could take a look into the ccs_Compdb.ini, I uploaded it to rapidshare: http://rapidshare.com/files/415076517/ccs_Compdb.ini

Do you (or the account you are using) have administrator privileges? Could you try installing in the default location (C:\CCStudio_v3.3)?

I didnt expect that, but that proposal for solution worked! Changing the name of the CCS directory is no problem, but it has to be in the C: root. I suggest to forward that problem to your CCS programmers, because a program should not cause such severe troubles just for changing the installation directory.

But nevertheless, Ki , thank you for your help!

I think the issue is actually that the "Program Files" folder is write protected in Vista and CCS needs write access to the install directory. I'm not too familiar with Vista but I know that addition access restrictions have been added since XP. I'm guessing if you install in some other custom location besides "Program Files", it would be ok.

Anyway, I'm glad you were able to install
