Using XDS510 USB from Virtual PC?

Hello
I have Code composer studio V3.3 and I have installed it on my windows 7 in Virtual PC XP mode. It works.
But I’m thinking of buying an XDS510 USB. Will it work from inside my virtual PC?
Could someone confirm this if they use a similar setup?
It looks like I can attach USB devices.

  • Marko,

I never succeeded to connect any XDS510 emulators when using the Windows XP Mode (I tried a Spectrum Digital's XDS510USB and a BlackHawk USB510L). When I attach the emulators they are detected and the device drivers are installed - BlackHawk's device driver is not able to initialize the emulator properly, though. As for Spectrum Digital's, its utility SdConfig is unable to connect to the emulator.

A related topic is the page below that talks about the supported tools under Vmware:

  • Hello again.

I have now received my XDS510LC USB and I can confirm that it works through my Virtual PC in Code composer studio 3.3.

  • I couldn't get the XDS510 USB emulator  to work in Windows Virtual PC XP mode. I also found that my older VMware 6.5 version would not work correctly in Windows 7. Instead of upgrading VMware ($99), I tried the free Oracle VM VirtualBox and its extension pack. I created a Windows XP Pro VirtualBox VM, then installed CC Studio 3.3 and the Spectrum Digital software. Everything appears to work well (download/debug), but you definitely need to install the VirtualBox Extension Pack to get the USB connection working correctly. The only issue I've encountered so far is that the USB connection to the emulator disconnects after doing an emulator reset or test in SDConfig, and also when I exit Code Composer. When this happens I have to temporarily escape from the VM and re-select the XDS510 USB device. Not a big deal in the long run.
