XDS510 replacement suggestions

Hi Teams,

I'm using below devices, and need to find a replacement solution for XDS510 due to not been manufactured any more.

1. TMS320C6203BGNZA250
2. TMS320C6414TBGLZ1

I'm wondering if XDS560v2 can handle this mission or not, or any suggestions?

  • Ryan,

The XDS560v2 products do not support (have not been validated with) C6203 or C6414.

For these devices XDS510 class debug probes are the main option.  Spectrum and Blackhawk no longer produce XDS510s.

One solution would be to purchase an XDS510 from one of the manufacturers in Asia that still make them.  The other option would be to purchase a surplus Spectrum Digital or Blackhawk XDS510 on a secondary market such as eBay.

Another product that supported these devices with the XDS560v1 but those are also discontinued and hard to find.

  • Hi!

I believe I was able to load C6414 with SpectrumDigital XDS560v2 LC Traveler USB type emulator. I had to arrange a project in Eclipse based CCS. There is no real-time log update, so can't call that setup as usable debug option, but at least program load, execution, and log examination on halt - that worked for me. From this perspective the question is how do you plan to use those replacements. If you still use CCSv3.3, I'm afraid the game is over, there are no v3.3 drivers for modern XDS560, and no supply of XDS510USB.

  • I was able to connect to a C6416 and a C6211 (the closest target I have to a C6203) using my Blackhawk XDS560v2 (w/CCS 10.4). These devices were likely never tested with the XDS560v2, hence why they are not officially supported. Because of the lack of official support, we do not feel comfortable recommending the XDS560v2 in this case. But the choice is up to the user.

Yes the BIOS RTA relied on RTDX, which is no longer supported in current CCS versions. If DSP/BIOS is not used, then this would not be applicable.

    Thanks
