Do we have to upgrade CCSv4 to CCSv5?

Hello,

We have been using CCSv4 till now to develop projects on TI DSPs.

I understood there are some additional functions in newer version v5,

but is it necessary to upgrade v4 to v5?

Will the updates and support on CCSv4 be stopped in future?

We are especially worried about the SYS/BIOS and DSP related software.

The SYS/BIOS 6.x Product Download Page mentions that the latest

version of SYS/BIOS "6.33.00.19" is Compatible with 5.1.0.09000 or later.

Does this mean the latest SYS/BIOS won't support CCSv4 anymore?

Please let me know if it is necessary to upgrade to CCSv5 or can

we continue to use CCSv4.

Regards.

Ayus

  • Ayus,

In general, it is always advisable to update to the latest versions as soon as possible. Support and patch updates for CCSv4 will taper off next year, so we are encouraging users to migrate to v5 as soon as they can. Note that even if you update to CCSv5, you can still use the version of compiler tools and BIOS you are currently using with v4 thereby minimizing the risk of update. That way you can continue to keep your stable, validated build environment while taking advantage of the new improved features in CCSv5.

That likely means that that version of BIOS has only been tested/validated with 5.1.0, and I expect this will happen more and more with newer releases of BIOS and compiler tools.
