CCS Debug problem

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TMS320VC5509A

Team,

I am not sure if it is the proper forum to post my issue. If not, please forward it to the right forum! Thanks!

I am using CCS debug with the Spectrum Digital C5509A DSK. I get the following error when I run the debug:

"

Error connecting to the target:
Error 0x80002280/-1250
Fatal Error during: Target Communication, OCS, Control,
Device driver: Lost USB connection to emulator.
You should ABORT and restart to re-establish the USB link

"

and the CCS Console window also shows, in red:

"

C55xx: Error connecting to the target: Error 0x80002280/-1250 Fatal Error during: Target Communication, OCS, Control, Device driver: Lost USB connection to emulator. You should ABORT and restart to re-establish the USB link.

".

The hardware setup and connection have no problem, because the same set works with another PC.

What should I do to setup my PC so that the debug can find the proper target?

Thanks,

Wendy Fang

  • Hello?!  May someone help?

  • Hi Wendy,

what are some of the differences in the two pcs? (CCS version?  Settings?  Target configuration? OS?)  Have you tried using a different USB port, or if you are using a hub, not going through the USB hub?

A bit further information might help us to furhter assist you.

    Best Regards,

    Lisa

  • Hello Lisa,

Thanks for your response! The issue is urgent and so glad you can help here.

In fact, my PC was working without any problem. The error occurs only after I installed some other thing into my PC that, i suspect, might interfere my original CCS debugging settings.

I had re-done the "target configutration", but the problem still occurs. The first time entering CCSW debug, it does always NOT work. While redo target configration in CCS, one out of 3 times, the error disappears, but the debug can still NOT work properly (that is, I can not read/write flash memory space properly). And one out of 20 times, it works without any problem.

Thus, I think it should be the CCS debug setting up problem.

Attached please find the ccBoard0.dat and target configuration files!

    Thanks,
    Wendy F.

  • HI Wendy,

if your configuration was working, then before we dig into the board files etc what would be more helpful would be

    - any error logs or dump files

    http://processors.wiki.ti.com/index.php/Troubleshooting_CCS

    - what was it you installed?  I strongly suspect that whatever was installed is in fact interfering with CCS.

    Best Regards,
    Lisa

  • Hello Lisa,

In order to get the error logs and dump files, I setup my PC enveriorment according to "cTools/Trace Logging" from

    http://processors.wiki.ti.com/index.php/Troubleshooting_CCS

The attached (1.zip) is what I got. Also:

Attachment CCSDebugError: what shows in CCS.

Attachment MyPCUSBView: It seems USBView can see the device but could not understand it. Note: whenever CCS Debug works,   USBView knows it correctly.

Attachment DeviceManeger: It seems my PC's device manager always knows the device without any issue.

Please let me know if anything more is needed!

    Thanks again,
    Wendy F.

  • Hello Lisa,

    Updated info:

What I mentioned that it works sometime and does not work another time, which was only true yesterday.

Today, it never worked so far, with the exact same error (as I provided previously, each and every time.

    Thanks,
    Wendy F.

  • HI Wendy,

can you try disabling USBView?  I suspect that it is causing the problem.  It may be taking up the port or interfering in some way.  I do not have it installed here so I would greatly appreciate if you could confirm/isolate that that software is causing the issue.

    Best Regards,
    Lisa

  • Hello Lisa,

Yes, USBView is always disabled, until the problem occuring and  I want to see the USB status.

Besides, USBView is always on my PC and never cause any problem.

    Regards,
    Wendy F.

  • Hi Wendy,

ok, my appologies as it seems I may have misunderstood.  What program is it that was recently installed then?  I still suspect some type of conflict between programs/dlls etc is possible here.

    Best Regards,
    Lisa

  • Hello Lisa,

Just Double checked my Control Panel/Programs and Features, only the following two were recently installed:

    Google Toolbar for Internet Explorer

    Adobe Flash Player 11 ActiveX

I do not think the two programs caused the problem, butI will try to un-install both, reboot my PC and try again. Will let you know the result as soon as done!

    Regards,
    Wendy F

  • Hello Lisa,

Just uninstalled and reboot my PC. The exact same problem is still here.

    Any further suggestions?

    Thanks,
    Wendy F.

  • Hi Wendy,

I am going to talk to a couple colleagues here so see what we can check next.  I focused on compatibility issues so far as you mentioned this seemed to start after installing somethings?

One thing I have noticed ... are you using the 5510 or 5509A version or both?

As soon as I have any further feedback I will let you know.

    Best Regards,

    Lisa

  • Hello Lisa,

Thank you very much for working on it!

The hardware set is Spectrum Digital's TMS320VC5509A DSK.

BTW: Today, I had it totally worked once, tried about 50 times ;-).  It always don't work at the first time, and then I played with Target Configuration to delete/add C5509A or C5510, which usually still doesn't work but, by some chance, becomes working.

Thus, it seems to me that: the hardware and connections are OK, and I have the setup problem.

    Thanks you again!

    Wendy F.

  • Hi Wendy,

Did you run the Spectrum Digital utility to test the host<->target connectivity? What were the results?

    Thanks

    ki

  • Hi Wendy,

just thought I would check whether there are any updates with things.

    Best Regards,
    Lisa

  • Hello Lisa,

Thanks SO much for your kindly checking back!

There is still problem. But the good news is: I found a working-around, by opening DSK5509A.ccxml file; rechecking the "initialization script at ..\..\emulation\boards\dsk5509a\gel\dsk5509a.gel; and then saving it.

I have to do such before running the Debug. You will be very much appreciated if you may explain the reason and also help me to setup automatically (so that I do not need to do so at every start)!

    Thanks,

    Wendy F.

  • Hi Wendy,

no worries, that's what we are here for.  Do you need to make the change to the ccxml every time?   Does a fresh workspace or recreating the ccxml help?  I do know we saw some occassional problems with CCSv5 importing projects where a ccxml regeneration was required.

    Best Regards,

    Lisa
