CCSv5.4 crashes during startup on Ubuntu 12.04

I downloaded CCS5.4.0.00091.

As far as I can tell, I was able to successfully install it on a workstation running Ubuntu 12.04 LTS  32-bit.

I ran the installer using "sudo".

I only installed the C5500 features.

CCSv5.4 crashes when I try to run it.

This is what I see when I launch it from the command line:

    I get CCSv5.4 to come up if I use "sudo" to launch it from the command line.

    > sudo /opt/ti/ccsv5/eclipse/ccstudio &

    I can import the files from a Windows project and build the project.


    If I install CCSv5.4 using "sudo", should I expect to run it with "sudo" too?

    basically ... yes, Linux /the linux version requires consistant permissions ...

    That's been my experience too.  I've made a few tweaks to this wiki page to try and make this point up front:

    I'm tempted to make a note saying the "install as user" is the preferred method, though I have not spent enough time working with CCS in Linux to really make that statement definitively.  Let me send some emails internally to see if perhaps we can update the wording for future release notes as well so that users are more likely to use the "install as user" method.

    EDIT: After talking with the CCS team it seems that installing as root and running as user is a tested/supported use case.  There are however a number of permissions-related issues which could affect things (e.g. a default umask, etc.).  The questions being asked by the CCS team in the rest of this thread look to be headed in that direction.

    Personally I have not had trouble installing as sudo and then running as user.  I just did another install now to confirm that it still works ok for me in CCSv5.4 and it was fine.  I installed as sudo into a directory similar to yours /opt/ti/ccs540/   I am running Ubunto 13.04 64bit but I have done this on 12.04 in the past.

    I am not a LInux expert but could this be an issue with the group permissions on your installation folder and the groups that your user belongs to?

    Patrick,

    If you still have this problematic CCS install around I would appreciate if you could get a couple more datapoints:

    Please send me the permissions and ownership of the following files and directories (you can obtain them with the ls -l command)

    • /opt/ti/ccsv5/eclipse/
    • /opt/ti/ccsv5/
    • /opt/ti/
    • /opt/ti/ccsv5/eclipse/ccstudio

    In addition please send the output of  the command 'groups' executed as the user that has problems running the installed CCS.

    And finally. the error messages in the logs for the .xml files are suspicious.  Can you send the output of the following:

    • find /opt/ti/  -type f -name C55xxHardwareBpContextMenu.xml -exec ls -l {} \;

    and also the output of ls -l for the entire directory that the file above resides in. 

    e.g.  ls -l  /opt/ti/ccsv5/eclipse/configuration/org.eclipse.osgi/bundles/379/1/.cp/resources/newBp/
