Cannot open "Register Window" and "Memory Window" in CCS v3.3.

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CCSTUDIO

Hello,

I am using CCS v3.3 and XDS560 USB emulator with DM355-EVM board.

I am not able to open the "Register Window" and "Memory Window" on CCS for debugging purpose.

Any knows about this issue ?

Is there some patch to resolve the issue ?

Thanks,

Snehal

  • Even I faced this issue in the TCI6487 Emulator. It might out of memory in PC.

Try closing browsers, Outlook and other applications that are running in the background.

    Restart the CCS.

  • Hi Snehal,

Do you have the latest SR installed? We have some incompatibility issues with some of the component in earlier release. If there is any dialog or error message pops up, can you attach it to this post?

    Regards,
    Patrick

  • Hi Patrick,

    Thanks for the reply.

I have installed SR11(CCS_v3.3_SR11_81.6.2.exe). I do not get any error message when I click on the "Register Window" or "Memory Window" icon, it just does not open up.

The "Call Stack Window" and "Disassembly Window" works fine.

Could there be any settings that need to be enabled or is it a CCS installation issue?

Another issue is ..  the CCS application crashes when I open it while the emulator is not connected to my PC. Could this be an issue with the CCS application or the emulator driver ?

The error shown while CCS crashes is :

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    AppName: cc_app.exe     App Ver: 5.98.0.393  ModName: xds560_ecom.dll

    ModVer: 3.0.1.0         Offset: 00004e49

Madhusoodan thanks for the suggestion. I tried what you said, but it did not work.

  • from the error: the crash is a driver issue.

Regarding the memory window and register window, these windows are .NET windows, it is not the same as the disassembly window and call stack window. I am suspecting that your installation is in a not so good state for the .NET windows, either the install/uninstall procedure causes some of the .NET dll not in sync.

Re-install the product can fix this issue - assuming that you uninstall previous install and delete the folder that you have CCS installed, or to a new directory. Than apply SR11 without installing previous SR.

You can also try to search you installation folder for mis-match dll version i.e look at the dlls in C:\CCStudio_v3.3\plugins\Joule\MemoryWindow and do a file search on the dlls in this folder in your root installation folder and sub folders, i.e C:\CCStudio_v3.3. Than make sure that the dll that you found in other folder(s) matches the dll version (file size, date, etc) in the MemoryWindow folder.

You can try to open the memory window after you have corrected the dlls for the memory window.

Do the same for the register window, C:\CCStudio_v3.3\plugins\Joule\RegisterWindow, but make sure that the same version of the dll exist in both memory window and register window.

  • Hi Patrick,

I did see a difference in "Assembly version"of few of the dlls(CCSRegAdaptor.dll, RegisterWindowUserCtrl.dll, Register.ocx) for Register Window.

    1. C:\CCStudio_v3.3\plugins\Joule\RegisterWindow

    2. C:\CCStudio_v3.3\MyProjects\plugins\Joule\RegisterWindow

I copied the one from location 1(showed a newer version) into location 2.  Still it did not work.

Is the DotNetFramework needed to be installed on the machine ? Any recommended version ?

    Thanks,

    Snehal

  • It should be installed as part of CCS3.3, unless you have removed it yourself. It requires 1.1 or higher. Interesting to see that you have the binaries in your 2nd location, it shouldn't be there at all. i.e MyProjects.

Also, can you make sure that the Register.ocx isn't registered and used in the MyProjects location?

  • I installed Dotnet framework v3.5.

The folder for MyProjects(along with the binaries) was created during CCS installation itself.

Yes I checked in Registry. Register.ocx is registered with location "C:\CCStudio_v3.3\plugins\Joule\RegisterWindow".

I am going to reinstall CCS and see if it helps.

  • I reinstalled the CCS from the another CD with the same version of CCS setup.

With this the register and memory window work fine. I think there is some issue with the CCS setup CD we have.

Thanks for the help and support Patrick.
