  • I just installed this version on my brand new Core i7 Sony laptop running Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit.

The Blackhawk emulation drivers still did not install. I had previously attempted with CCS v4.1.1 with the same failure.

Does installing CCS to the non-default directory be part of the problem?I specify C:\Dev\TI as the install directory.

I cannot even uninstall what I just installed because I get a "Error in action ExecuteScript"!

    Any ideas?

    Thanks.
    Siraj.

  • Hi Siraj,

There should not be any issues installing the Blackhawk drivers on Win 7 64-bit. You can try running the Blackhawk installer explicitly and see if that helps.

    .\setup_CCS_4.1.1.00014\install_images\emulation\bh_emupack_setup_4.1.0.0.exe

Installing in the non-default directory is completely fine. In fact, it is recommended for 64-bit machines.

    ki

  • Slight correction; this should be:

    .\setup_CCS_4.1.2.00027\install_images\emulation\bh_emupack_setup_4.1.0.0.exe

Siraj, if this fails again, could you please forward some of the specifics of the failure (e.g., error message or the like)?

    Thanks.

  • Hi

I downloaded v4.1.2.00027 and tried to install it and got:

"You are trying to overinstall CCSv4.1.1.00014 with v4.1.2.00027 in the same directory.

    This is not allowed...."

So then I tried to use the CCS internal update but it couldn’t find it (it says it has a 4.0.0.4 update - what! I'm on 4.1.1. How can that be?). Maybe there is a bug in the updater?

I’m afraid to do an uninstall and loose the board and CSL folders I added to the Texas Instruments folder.

Do I have to uninstall my old v4.1.1?

Will it destroy my csl and board folders if I do?

    Cheers

  • We don't encourage people to overinstall on top of an existing install. You can keep both with no problems, just install them in different directories.

The path update for 4.1.2 is not yet available. We hope to have this available soon. (I think the 4.0.0.4 thing is some issue with the updater)

    Thanks

    ki

  • Hi

If I elect to uninstall v4.1.1, will it remove all my boards and csl files I added to the Texas Instruments folder?

i.e. When I installed the C6472 SDK, it was put into

    C:\Program Files\Texas Instruments\ccsv4\emulation\boards

(if ccsv4 is removed with the uninstall, then bye bye boards?)

    Cheers

    Eddie

  • Automated patch update for v4.1.2 will be enabled early next week; there was a bit of a delay.

This patch mechanism performs an update "in place", and no parallel installation is required in this case.

    Cheers.

    Nabil

  • Installing CCS v4.1.2 did not indicate any issues with installing the Blackhawk drivers but I know it did not work because the BH driver files were not in the location there are supposed to be in (based on the readme), ie. Program Files\Blackhawk.  Directly installing the bh_emupack_setup appears to work till the very last step - clicking Finish does not appear to do anything and the dialog becomes non-responsive and I have to end the process to make it go away (after waiting for 5 minutes). I've seen how the BH setup is supposed to work and this is not it. I do have User Access Control turned off as recommended for the CCS install. Should anything else be turned off?

Before I do anything further, I would like to completely clean my system of CCS and all associated installs. The uninstall for the CCS comes back with the error as shown below. Can you list the steps to completely clean the laptop of CCS and Blackhawk without having to reinstall Windows?

    Thank you.

    Siraj.

On a 64-bit machine, the Blackhawk drivers will be installed in Program Files (x86)\Blackhawk. Could you check that location?

btw - I have seen some uninstall issues with CCSv4 on Win 7. I'll see there is some know issue.

    Thanks

    Hi Ki,

Sorry, that's the location I meant. There is no Blackhawk directory in "Program Files (x86)".

I am now going to perform a factory restore on my laptop and remove all extraneous software before trying to install CCS again. But before I install CCS again, I would like to know exactly what should be turned off like User Access Control.

    Thanks.

    Siraj.

  • Before doing a full re-install, try the following clean-up procedure:

    1. Go to Add/Remove programs and remove Code Composer Studio as well as Blackhawk.

    2. Go to C:\Program Files and remove (or rename) Texas Instruments folder.

    3. Go to C:\Program Files and rename InstallJammer Registry.

    4. Go to your desktop and delete Code Composer Studio shortcuts.

    5. Restart.

Hopefully you won't have to reinstall from factory.

  • Other than making sure you have admin access and disabling UAC, there is nothing else you should have to do. I'd also recommend installing in a location outside C:\Program Files (x86). That should be it. That worked for me when I installed v4 on my Win 7 64-bit OS.

  • I cannot uninstall CCS as I described in a previous post. But I cleaned out my CCS install as Nabil listed and just tried to install the Blackhawk drivers and failed. The dialog always hangs after clicking Finish and does not finish the install.

Something is preventing the Blackhawk drivers from installing.   Windows Defender and Firewall is turned off, UAC is off and I am an Administrator. More ideas?

    Thanks.

    Siraj.

  • Did you try to install BH from within CCS installation or completely separately?  I would recommend the former, as BH installation checks for existence of specific components within CCS.  Let us know if this still fails.

Regardless of the situation, a failure of BH installation should come back to you with an appropriate error message rather than a hang - we will pursue this issue separately.

    Nabil

  • Every time I installed CCS, the Blackhawk drivers would not be installed. That's why I used the separate installer after CCS was installed. During the CCS install, it would appear the BH install was successful, but it was not - no Blackhawk directory in "Program Files (x86)".  The separate installer would always stop responding after clicking Finish.

I should emphasize this only happens on my new Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit on a Core i7 Sony laptop. I have not had any install issues on my old HP laptop running WinXP Pro SP3. I have had plenty of other issues but everything installed fine.

Now, I am restoring my new laptop to factory, then remove all the bloatware, then update Windows and drivers and then try the CCS v4.1.2 install again. I'll be sure to be an Administrator, turn UAC, Firewall and Defender off. I would appreciate any other precautions I should take before installing CCS.

    Thanks.

    Siraj.

  • I finally figured out what the issue was!!!

After restoring my new laptop to factory state and removing all bloatware and any services that I could determine as unnecessary and turning off Windows Firewall and Defender, I tried to install CCS v4.1.2 and it hung on the Blackhawk install like the picture below.

At this point I decided to explore the process tree and found that the BlackHawk installer was being started by the command shell (TCC from JPSoft) that I use as an alternative to cmd.exe. On a whim, I restarted the install from cmd.exe and the Blackhawk installer started just fine and prompted for permission to install drivers. The remainder of the install completed just fine. I'll leave it up to the installer guys and JPSoft to figure out the incompatibility - I have wasted days on this issue.

Thanks to all for ideas and suggestions.

    Siraj.

  • Siraj,

Thanks for updating us on your issue and posting the resolution you found. It is good for us (and others) to know.

    Thanks

  • Ki,

I've done a fresh install of CCS v4.1.2.00027 on a Windows XP 2002 Service Pack 3 o/s - just the MSP430 portion of the Core Edition.  I cannot get the MSP-FET430UIF JTAG interface to connect.  I get the following dialog box error message when I select 'Launch TI Debugger':

    Error initializing emulator:
Unable to load C:\Program Files\Texas Instruments\ccsv4\DebugServer\drivers\MSP430.dll because The specified procedure could not be found.

Any ideas?  I've successfully updated CCS v4 to 4.1.2.00027 on another machine in our lab w/o any problems, but this one particular machine just doesn't seem to work.

  • Hello,

    I am using Build 4.1.2.00027.

    And have some problems.

In Project->Properties->C/C++ Build, there is noting in the Configuration Settings.

    See attached picture.

    My OS is Windows 7.

Did any one meet this before?

    Is there any solution?

Version 4.1.0.01000 has the same problem in win 7

I  used ver 4.0.2.01003 in Win Xp.

    It has no such problem.

    Thanks.

    Alan

  • Hello,

    I verified,

    Build 4.1.2.00027

on Win Xp has no such problem.

    Thanks

    Alan

  • Alan - is your Windows 7 version a 64-bit version? And what about your XP version? 32 or 64 bit?

    Thanks

    ki

  • Hi Ki,

    the info is:

    Win 7 ver is 64-bit

    Xp ver is 32-bit

As said in the CCS release notes, it should support 64-bit OS.

    Thanks

    Alan

  • Alan,

There is a known issue with CCSv4 (or more specifically the Eclipse version CCSv4 is based off) and 64-bit Windows. See the following FAQ for more details and a possible workaround:

    http://processors.wiki.ti.com/index.php/FAQ_-_CCSv4#Q:_Does_CCSv4_support_64bit_Operating_Systems_like_XP64_or_Vista_64.3F

    Thanks

    ki

  • Thanks Ki,

I saw the Eclipse is 3.1 in CCS 4.1, while Eclipse is now 3.5.

Not sure 3.5 fix this problem or not.

Hope TI could try 3.5 and fix the problem.

Since I must use this feature to config it, I use XP OS to generate the project, and then copy it to Win 7.

I need to go forward to finish my project.

Resize does not work for me. Can see more, but can not see more details

    Thanks anyway.

CCSv5 (which uses a recent version of Eclipse) does not have any issues. Unfortunately CCSv5 is still some time away. Did you see the flash video in the FAQ? It shows how to make the build options visible. Which options are you looking for?

  • Hi Ki,

    Thanks for your info.

    I saw that video,

    I need tools setting.

As I mentioned in the previous post, it does not work for me.

    Thanks

  • Ki,

I've not seen a response to the following issue that I posted on 05-05-2010.  I cannot launch the JTAG debugger on one of my XP machines, using CCS v4.1.2.00027:

Does anyone recognize  this error message?

  • Hi Gifford,
Without a reproducible test case, it is very difficult for us to investigate the issue. What could help a lot are debug logs. Please see the below url and provide all the information (or as much as possible) requested in the url (especially the CCS Diagnostic Logs):

    http://processors.wiki.ti.com/index.php/Troubleshooting_CCS#Information_for_Support

    Thanks

  • Gifford,

Although I haven't experienced this issue myself, another idea is try to reinstall the MSP430 emulation drivers package only. Please check the link below for instructions.

    http://processors.wiki.ti.com/index.php/FAQ_-_CCSv4#Q:_How_do_I_install_the_MSP430_Parallel_Port_FET_driver.3F

    Hope this helps,

  • Rafael & Ki,

Your feedback is very helpful.  I will try both suggestions on our 'problem' XP machine.

  • Ki & Rafael,

I tried reinstalling the CCS MSP430 emulator portion w/o any luck.  I've captured a screen shot and attached what I consider to be the relevant error logs.  Again, I'm just curious how I'm supposed to interpret the error message displayed in the dialog box - it seems to be a fairly common error, and I was hoping that y'all could sleuth out what was causing it.

  • Just to clarify:

    - This error dialog box appears after I launch the CCS application and click 'Target->Launch TI Debugger'.

    - The Windows 'Device Manager' shows the MSP-FET430UIF-VCP device and indicates that the device is working properly.

    Siraj.

I just installed CCS  Version: 4.1.2.00027  tonight.  It was bundled with the eZ430-Chronos Development Tool.  I can't get the debugger to connect, and I was going to try to reinstall.  However, uninstall doesn't work. I'm getting something similar to Siraj: Error in action ExecuteScript. The error dialog box is attached below.  I had installed it on a Win 7 x64 machine and to a non default directory.   Going back to a factory install on my PC is definitely not an option.

  • It would be helpful for us to retrieve the log files from your install and uninstall. They are located in C:\Program Files\InstallJammer Registry\ccsv4\DF98E52A-EF99-44CD-87FE-983EC4F3E105 and are called TI_CCSv4_install.log and TI_CCSv4_uninstall.log. Please attach them to your post if possible.

A quick workaround for the uninstall issue would be to just delete the CCS installtion folder. If you want to install to the same location again, you will also need to delete the C:\Program Files\InstallJammer Registry\ccsv4 folder as this is where the installation program keeps track of what is installed and where.

The script error message seems to indicate there is a permissions problem with an API being used in the uninstaller. We will have to investigate further.

  • I think I have attached the uninstall log.  The add/update button under options doesn't seem to allow me to add a 2nd file, and I can't see the uninstall log in the preview, so I won't know whether it uploaded until I hit post.

Is there a better way to attach files?

  • Andy,

Here is my install log.  Thanks for your help.

I'm going to try your workaround for uninstalling CCS.

Regarding UAC, does this need to be disabled only during install or always when using CCS?  I see others saying that Defender and virus software also needs to be disabled during install.  Is this true?

I wasn't able to get debug to work.  I get an error dialog that says "error initializing emulator, Could not initialize device interface".  I'm wondering if this has something to do with a faulty install on my part (since I didn't disable UAC when I allowed an upgrade to take place after my initial CCS install). This is why I want to remove my install and start over again.

    Thanks,

    Bob

My Olimex LPT Programmer does still not work on XP SP3 with a target processor MSP430F5538 in CCS 4.1.2,

while it works with IAR Software. Is there a solution for CCS?

    No connection is possible.
