not currently happy with CCS

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CC3200, MSP430FR2633

Good morning,

I've been working with TI software for, at least, 6 years. I have programmed plenty of projects and its E2E community is by far the best I've worked with.

However, today I have tried to install CC3200 SDK to CCS and it has been a real nightmare for about 3 hours.

Wrong SimpleLink paths, blank TI resource screens, failed CCS App Center connections, failed repository URLs, wrong debug configurations and a very long etcetera. I'm aware people working with some Bluetooth applications have similar problems, too. At least, MSP430 part seems to be a bit more polished.

I would be a fool if I say I'm done with CCS but just to let anyone in charge know there are lots of things in this IDE that used to work ok and now they are not. While I'm aware it has to be a hard work to maintain a software beast such as CCS, all these aspects really affect negatively a huge amount of potential users.

That is my current opinion.

I wish a really nice day to everyone :)

  • I'm sorry to hear of your struggles. We are aware that we have some work to do to provide a better experience for customers who try to use the various TI products together. Your post reminds us we still have a long way to go to get these issues resolved. Your message has been heard and attention drawn to it. Thank you for your feedback and we hope to provide a better solution in the future.

    Thanks

  • Hi kazola,

Have you already made it to work? Anyway, if not my advice would be to install the latest version of CCS using offline installers and then follow the CC3200 Getting Started Guide.

  • Hi  and @Ki-Soo Lee,

BTW I've been unable to @ the latter name :)

Yes, that is what I have precisely done, thanks for the advice. That's another good thing about TI, the fast response. Bad thing is to have to get rid of all previous installations. This Christmas, for example, was very difficult to have the MSP430FR2633 Captivate examples to work.

I think the big problem about the user experience is "why I have to install this, do I need this amount of XDCtools versions, what is the difference between this SimpleLink Installer and doing this from my CCS, why is Resource Explorer not showing CC3200 (in this case) examples" and so on.

In fact, when installed from scratch for a single purpose, the IDE works usually great.

So, have a nice day and thanks for your answer. I have no doubt next CCS version will rock. Let me know if I can help in any way by performing any test.

    Bye!
