CCS/MSP432P401R: Trouble downloading program to MCU and launching debugger in CCS.

When I try to launch the debugger and download my program onto my MSP432P401R, I receive an error window that says "ccstudio.exe has stopped working. A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available." I have tested the connection to the microcontroller and it appears to work fine. Are there any likely causes for this?

Hi Clifton,

Are you using Windows 10? There is a known issue with CCS debugger crashes and windows 10.

I am using Windows 10. The funny thing is I was able to use CCS for a few months before this issue occurred. Was there an update to Windows 10 recently that may have caused this issue? Otherwise, what is the best way to resolve this issue?

Ok, I found the other forum posts on this issue. I should change the name of ctools.dll file to just any other arbitrary name?

Instead of renaming ctools, try the below fix:

Please rename the file DeviceIdentifier.dll (in.\ccs_base\emulation\analysis\bin) to something else and copy in the attached version of it into the directory. Then start CCS and see if the crash is resolved.
