CCS/TMS320VC5409A: Code Composer Studio on Windows 10

Part Number: TMS320VC5409A

Tool/software: Code Composer Studio

We have an old project using the C5409A DSP, developed with CCS v3.1 on my old laptop running Windows 7.  I recently got a new laptop with Windows 10.  Today I tried to install CCS v3.1 on my new laptop, but the installation failed because Windows required a digitally signed driver. It looks like CCS v3.1 will not run under Windows 10.  I contacted TI tech support and they told me to download and install CCS version 7.  During the installation I was asked which processors I wanted to support, but 54x was not on the list of supported processors (55x was on the list).  I looked at the release notes and it 54x was not listed.  It looks like CCS version 7 does not support the 5409 processor.  I would like to know if there a version of CCS that supports the 5409 and will run under Windows 10.  Thanks.

  • Hello,
The last version of CCS to officially support C54x is CCSv5.5. That version is only officially supports up to Windows 7.

However, I have successfully run CCSv5.5 on Windows 10-64, even though it is not officially supported. I would expect that it would work in most cases.

    Thanks

  • Hello Ki,

Thanks for the info. I was able to download and install CCS v5.5 on my Windows 10 laptop, but I got an error when I tried to import my old CCS v3.1 project. The import feature only has the option to "Import Legacy CCSv3.3 Project", whereas my project is v3.1. Could this be the reason why the import failed?

    Thanks for your help.

  • The project file format is similar between CCSv3.1 and CCSv3.3 so you should be able to import 3.1 project also. It may be a bit more complicated if you are using DSP/BIOS 4.x with your 3.1 project. In that case, I'd convert your project to DSP/BIOS 5 before trying to import the project into CCSv5.

Also take a look at the below wiki topic. It was written for CCSv4 but many of the suggestions still apply to CCSv5:

    Good luck!
