One option for C6713 is to use the simulator in CCSv5.5. This will give you options such as function profiling. Note that the simulator is not available in newer versions of CCS.

For profiling on a real C6713 board such as the DSK then the profile clock is the best option.

Be aware that if optimization is on the C6000 compiler is quite aggressive in scheduling instructions. There will be a lot of C source lines that do now have assembly associated with them when using higher levels of optimization like -o2 or -o3. You can use the disassembly view to see which source lines you will be able to set breakpoints on.
