CCS/CCSTUDIO-MSP: CCSTUDIO v9.0 install & running errors

Part Number: CCSTUDIO-MSP

Tool/software: Code Composer Studio

Hi, I tried to install CCSTUDIO v9.0 on Win 8 using offline installer ( http://software-dl.ti.com/ccs/esd/CCSv9/CCS_9_0_0/exports/CCS9.0.0.00018_win64.zip

There's an error showing up during the installation as seen below, yet the installation was completed.

However, everytime when I launch CCS v9.0, an error message always pops up as seen below.

As a result, when I try to open the resource explore in CCS, it's always stuck at "loading", as seen below.

When I try to create a new CCS project, I can't click "next" or "finish" to create it. Also when I click the "Identify" button, there's a "Starting Debug Server" window popping up, and then the entire CCS is halted ( on which I can't click or type anything).

Does anyone know what's wrong during my installation that causes the error message & halting of entire CCS?

Thank you in advance for your help.

Johnson

You may be missing the MSVC redistributable libraries. Please see:

If you still see the above issue after verifying that the libraries are installed, please try the steps below:

Looking at your last screenshot, there are warnings that the MSP430 compilers were not installed. It does look like you have device support for it however. Look inside the following path [CCS INSTALL DIR]\ccs\tools\compiler. Is there a folder called "ti-cgt-msp430_18.12.1.LTS'? That is the compiler for the MSP430 that comes with CCSv9

Do you have an actual MSP430 board or FET plugged into your PC? It is trying to identify it. If it finds it, it will blink an LED.

    Thanks

  • Hi Ki, thank you for your replying. I do have "ti-cgt-msp430_18.12.1.LTS" folder in my installation paht ( C:\TI\ccs900\ccs\tools\compiler ).

I plugged MSP-FET & MSP-EXP430F5438 board to my laptop and tried to create a new CCS project as seen below, but the CCS still didn't find both my FET & EXP board, and was halted again, forcing me to terminate CCS from task manager.

I think all the above errors may result from missing the MSVC redistributable libraries. However, when I download KB2999226 update package and tried to install it, I kept receiving the message from Win 8.0 saying "This update is not applicable to your computer" as seen below.

My Win 8.0 OS hasn't been updated for years and all the update packages seem obsolete, and I guess without installing KB2999226 package I can't install the latest CCS on my laptop. I'm considering installing older version of CCS on my laptop. Do you know which version of CCS would be compatible with older OS such as Win 7 or Win 8.0? Will CCS5.5.0 work?

Thank you again for your help.

    Bests,

I using the same CCS version with the same MSP-FET & MSP-EXP430F5438 target (the device on the kit is an F5438A). The Idenitfy button works - it blinks the LED on the MSP-FET and then a message appears about terminating:

What happens when you build the project and try to start a debug session for it? Is the debugger able to connect to the target?

I'm not sure if CCSv9 officially supports Windows 8. But CCSv8.x should. You can try installing CCSv8.3 and see if that helps

  • Hi Ki, thank you for your notifying. I still can't install CCS V9.0 on my laptop. I installed CCS v5.5 and use MSP-FET430UIF instead and have no difficulty programming TI MSP430 products, including MSP-EXP430F5438 and MSP-EXP430F5529. Thank you again for your help.

    Sincerely,

  • Well, I'm glad CCSv5.5 is working for you. It is a mystery to me why 9.0 is not. I suppose it is possible that there could be an issue with CCSv9 and Windows 8 as we do not really support Windows 8 anymore.

    Thanks
