CCS/MSP-FET: MSP-FET : can't resolve "No USB FET was found" error with CCS studio

Hey Mike,

Typically the "Can not find USB FET" means that the computer isn't seeing the MSP-FET itself.  So, it's unlikely to be related to your board or JTAG connections.  (Those issues usually say something along the lines of "Target not found")

If you unplug your MSP-FET from the PCB and try to debug, you should still get the "Cannont find USB FET" error.  This is typically a driver related issue.  

Do you see the MSP-FET showing up as a debugger in your Device Manager?  Are there any LEDs lit up on the MSP-FET?

Thank you for your answer. I tried on another PC and it worked. So I guess the problem comes from my own laptop. How can I resolve that ? I mean if it works on another PC this means drivers are missing on mine ? But I don't know why drivers would be missing on mine since I followed exactely the same steps to install CCS studio. 

PS: there are 2 LEDs on MSP-FET : one green led (it's written power under it) and a red led (Mode written under it).

Hey Mike,

When you installed CCS, if you told it you would be developing with MSP430s, then it should have also installed MSP430ware which will include the tool drivers.  You should probably have a folder   in c:\ti\msp430warexxxxx  

Can you confirm that you have a msp430ware folder?  

if so, When you plug the MSP-FET into the PC, do you see it show up in the device manager?

Yes I can confirm that I have the msp430ware folder. Also the laptop do recognize the MSP-FET because in the device manager I can find a "MSP-tools" peripheral, and I still can't debug any program. I don't why it works on another pc and not this one. Any help would be appreciated.

Hey Mike,

Sorry for the delay, I was pulled away.  When you plug in the MSP-FET, you should see MSP Application UART and Debug Interface on your device manager.  Do you see these? 

Also, are either of the LEDs on the MSP-FET turned on when you connect it to your PC?  Ideally you would see the power LED only one.  The LED signals are defined in section 5.6.4 of the MSP-FET User's Guide: http://www.ti.com/lit/ug/slau647m/slau647m.pdf

So in fact I don't have as you have the MSP application UART1 and MSP Debug interface. What would you recommand to resolve this, I mean what I have to do so the device manager could "see" the MSP-FET ?

Yes when I connect MSP-FET to PC the Green LED which is the power LED turn on.
