CCS/SM320C6727B: Hardware debugger compatibility with C6727 on latest CCS

Part Number: SM320C6727B
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TMDSEMU560V2STM-UE, TMDSEMU560V2STM-U

Tool/software: Code Composer Studio

In the past we have used the Spectrum Digital XDS510USB PLUS Emulator for hardware debugging of our C6727 DSPs over JTAG. However, we have not been able to perform debugging using this tool on any CCS version starting with CCSv5.

Which hardware debuggers are compatible with the current CCS release when debugging C6727 DSPs?

  • Hi,

The most compatible debug probe available is the XDS560v2-class: both the TMDSEMU560V2STM-U and the TMDSEMU560V2STM-UE. This Debug Probe works on all CCS releases since 4.0.

However, I am surprised that you are seeing incompatibility between your XDS510USB Plus and CCSv5. When installing CCSv5, did you select the Spectrum Digital probe support?

I am not sure if you intend to perform code development or just debugging/maintenance, but migrating existing code from such early versions to the latest CCSv10 is a very intricate task. Not to mention the DSP/BIOS real time analysis tools are not supported in the newer releases anymore (basic JTAG debugging is fully supported). The only drawback to stay on an older release is the lack of Windows 10 support.

    Hope this helps,

    Rafael
