CCS/CCSTUDIO3: Question about cost and license terms

Part Number: CCSTUDIO3

Tool/software: Code Composer Studio

I'm looking at buying "TMDSCCS2000-1 v3.3 for F24x/C24x Devices", which I need to use for a legacy product. The questions I sent to TI support were:

  1. The listed price is $512.47, but the description states "with annual subscription". Can you clarify if there is some additional annual fee? Is it something optional like support?
  2. How does the license work (i.e. is it limited to one computer or many, can it be tranferred, etc)?

I got a response to #1 stating "the cost should include an unlimited license. It doesn't need to be updated yearly.", but they recommended I ask here regarding #2. So, any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

  • Gregory,

The response from support on #1 is correct.  It is a one time license fee.  There used to be a subscription fee that covered updates.  However as there are no longer updates being produced for this tool we stopped subscription.

I will need to go look at the license text to check the language used.  It has been a while.

You mentioned that this is for a legacy project.  Would your company have purchased a license at some point?  If so we may be able to treat this as replacement media.

    Regards,

    John

  • Hi John,

To answer your question, yes, we must have had a license for it in the past. The product was developed a long time ago using the compiler. Its maintenance is now being transferred from another location to mine (both in the USA in case that matters), but we can't find the installer or any license information for it.

    Thanks,
    Greg

  • Gregory,

Here is the relevant section from the 3.3 license.

    b.   RestrictionsThis license is for a single-user host computer.  You may not install the Proprietary Programs on a network server or otherwise use the Proprietary Programs on more than one host computer at the same time.  Additionally, if this package contains multiple versions of the Proprietary Programs, you may only use one version of such programs on a single host computer.  You may install the Proprietary Programs on additional single-user host computers, provided that in no event may more than one copy of such Programs be in use at any one time.  You may either make one copy of the Proprietary Programs for archival purposes or copy the Proprietary Programs to another medium and keep the original Proprietary Programs for archival purposes.  Other than as expressly set forth in this Section and in Section 1(c) below, you may not otherwise copy or reproduce the Proprietary Programs.  In no event may you use two copies or versions of the Proprietary Programs on more than one host computer at the same time.  You may not distribute, publish, rent or lease the Proprietary Programs or transfer or assign this Agreement without TI’s prior written permission and you may not sub-license the Proprietary Programs except as provided herein.

    I bolded a few sentences.

    John

  • Hi John,

Sounds good, thanks for getting back to me. I also responded to your question up above. Figured I'd call it out since we both posted at almost the exact same time. Let me know if it's possible to call it replaement media and then I'll mark this as resolved.

    Thanks,
    Greg

  • Greg,

I will send you a friend request.  We can continue the replacement media discussion in a private thread.

    Regards,

    John
