Tool/software: Code Composer Studio
This is driving me crazy - I just cannot get my development board (TM4C123GXL) to connect via a COM port to either CCS or Energia.
I have tried all the tricks, and all the websites say I don't need a driver.
Really stuck - so any help would be gratefully received.

I have the 1294 launchpad, which I assume is very similar to the 123G board.
On the Mac, the In-Circuit Debug Interface exposed by the debugger shows up in /dev/ as something like /dev/tty.usbmodem0F00C6551
A terminal emulator, like Serial (which is absolutely worth the money, seriously, I mean that, it's the best terminal emulator out there), will show the interface as a CDC device, like this.
Set your terminal to use 115,200 as the baud rate, 8 bits, no parity, one stop bit and it works.
Now this terminal shows messages you send out from your application using the UARTprintf() function in the TivaWare library for firmware built with CCS.
This is exactly the same if you are using Energia. In this case, Serial.println() output goes to this terminal.
