CCS/TMDSOSKL137: Which version of CCS to use?

Thank you for your quick reply. I downloaded v.8 and it had the needed connection. However, I received an error message when connecting to the board and clicking on Test Connection (see pic below).

Next, I downloaded v.7 to see if that would work. It did connect to the board. However, I have a problem when running the debugger after connecting the target. I have been following this Wiki link https://processors.wiki.ti.com/index.php/OMAP-L137_EVM_Hardware_Setup#Connecting_to_CCS It says to run the debug after setting the new configuration as default. Do you recommend this for setting up the board? When I click on debug, it runs, and then the board disconnects (see pic below).

Also, when I click on Test Connection, it throws an error (see pic below).

As soon as I terminate the debug session and click on test connection, the board connects with no error being thrown. Please let me know if you have any ideas on how to fix this. Also, if you have any getting started documents you would recommend, I would appreciate it.

Just to confirm this is the board being used:

The 5V power supply is connected and the power switch is on?

The USB cable is connected to the USB connector on the same side as the power switch?

I may need to loop in the team that supports OMAP-L137 to confirm that the switches and jumpers are correct.

Thank you, John and Sahin for your replies. Yes, John that link is the board I am using. The 5V power supply is connected and the power switch is on. Also, the USB cable is connected to the same side as the power switch. 

Sahin, thank you for the guide. I followed the guide and everything works up to Section 10.3.12.3.2. Connect Target and Load/Run Program. In that section, as soon as I select the DSP and then click on “Run -> Connect Target” from menu, I receive an error that the target is being held in reset: 

Please let me know if you have any ideas on how to stop the target from being held in reset. Should I alter Switch 2 (the Boot Switch)? Currently, it is on 0101X as recommended in the guide. Here is a pic of it too:

For this device I believe you need to connect to the Arm first and then the DSP.  The initialization script for the Arm should release the DSP from reset.

I found another thread with some more info:

For L138 that is correct but for L137 it is the opposite, the DSP is the master in this case and needs to be connected to first.

Could there be something running on the device already? You can try connecting your PC to the UART port and opening up a terminal to see if there is anything being output there. You can also try setting the device to a different boot mode - the various boot mode switch settings are documented in the EVM technical reference here: http://support.spectrumdigital.com/boards/evmomapl137/revg/files/EVMOMAPL137_TechRef_revg.pdf

Thank you for your reply. I did find another forum link https://e2e.ti.com/support/processors/f/791/t/667479 that said to set SW 2 (the Boot Switch) to 11110. It connects when I do that, but I receive another error:

For the DSP I receive No source available for "0x713098" :

For the ARM 9 No source available for "0xffff0000":

Are those errors permissible or do I need to change something? 

Also, when I go to the next step in the guide to Load Program and click on Browse, only these files come up:

I don't see any example projects to run. Do I need to download an SDK for this version of CCS or does v.7 already come with an SDK that has examples in it? Am honestly trying to understand what SDK is and do I need it?

Thank you for the link to the Processor SDK package. In the package, it has both downloads for PROCESSOR-SDK-RTOS-OMAPL137  06_03_00_106 and CCS v.9. Do you know if the PROCESSOR-SDK-RTOS-OMAPL137  06_03_00_106 would work with version 7 or 8 of CCS or would I need to install a different SDK version?

Hi Michael,

My recommendation would be to use the CCS version validated with the Processor SDK release. This version is listed in the Processor SDK release notes, and for PRSDK 6.3 is CCS 9.3.0. 

EDIT: I just remembered the XDS510 onboard the OMAP-L137 EVM is not compatible with CCS v9+, so I would stick with CCS 8.3. If you run into any issues using it, please feel free to create a new thread on this forum.
