Hi, I was hoping to use GUI Composer to build a custom eval program eventually running through a control sequence with a single button. However I can't get past the first instruction in the user guide "select your Target Communication option" (I think I've tried all the options). Is there a more basic guide available for those who haven't used TI tools/parts before, or can you tell me which option to select to progress.

Thanks for the link.

None of these explain what all the different setup options mean. The only serial based tutorial uses a program that constantly outputs data. I think the program in the EVM uses a command response model.

Looks like it is the same GCv2 User's Guide I was referring to.

I assume you are referring to this dialog:

It is asking for the transport to be used to communicate with the device. The main options are to use an XDS JTAG connection, UART, network, USB2ANY, analog even controller. The tutorials have examples for the XDS, UART, and network options. Which transport are you looking to use?

Hi Ki,

The DRV8908-Q1 EVM has an FTDI USB to RS232 to talk to the MSP430G2553 which already seems to have some code in (I don't really want to change this). The EVM comes with a demo program that say "Build with GUI Composer 2.0" So I was hoping to build something similar that matched how we would like to use the DRV8908 chip.

The example for UART uses Streaming. I think the EVM uses a command response communication e.g. I need to send a request from the PC to get a response from the EVM. When I get to setup the transport link it seems to wait for data from the EVM without sending anything out first.

Hi John,

In this case the GUI is developed for us by a third-party and the transport mechanism is basically a black box for us.

What I can tell you is it is possible to import the GUI program you've already downloaded into GUI Composer (the original download zip has another installer zip embedded that contains the full app source code - install_image_DRV89xx-Q1.zip).

From there, you can start modifying as you need, with the working transport intact, then export your modified project as a standalone app to run on your local machine. Pay attention to the notice about running the app in the gcruntime folder - this is important (will not run otherwise). You should find the gcruntime path here: C:\Users\[user]\guicomposer\runtime\gcruntime.v7 (if not, check the properties of the start menu icon when the original DRV89xx GUI was installed).

FYI, I've only had luck when exporting as a standalone app. Attempting to run from within GUI Composer does not work for me.

Sorry I do not have better news - the GUI is really only intended to facilitate out-of-box experiments.
