TIDA-00704: TIDA-00704

Part Number: TIDA-00704

Can I use this design to charge laid acid batteries

  • Hi Yassine,
Yes, you can use the design to charge lead acid batteries. The feedback loop is CC-CV and need to be set as per your battery charging specifications.
Please ensure that charging voltage and current are within the specifications of the design.

    Thank You,

  • Thank you Latif.
my ultimate goal is to design a smart charger (2 or 3 stages ) with universal input and if it can accept input from a solar panel that will be great. Can I do that with this design
  • Good day Abed,

TIDA-00704 is a CC-CV charger by default and can work from AC input with PFC front end or with DC-Input at HV node.

For multi-stage charging we have provided an option for MCU interface, where you can use TIDA-00703 board to interface with this design and have multiple levels of charging.

The solar input can be interfaced at HV-DC Bus node, but the is it regulated output after the MPPT converter or is it directly coming from panel.

If directly coming from panel, then MPPT algorithm need to taken care by external MCU adjusting the charging levels in the feedback.

    Thank You,

  • Hello Amir,

I am back looking at this design. I am very interested in using it in my application. Can you please give me more specific instruction on how to CC-CV per the battery charging spec. I looked in the documentation I was unable to figure out what to do. Your help is very much appreciated.

  • Good day Abed,

The feedback loop has CC-CV logic implemented using LM258. U5 device is used for this purpose. Please refer schematics and circuitry associated with U5 in feedback loop. U5A is used for constant voltage loop and U5B is used for constant current loop. The current is sensed through R14 and R19. You can also refer TIDA-00355 design guide document for explanation of similar CC-CV loop implementation.
