TIDA-00637: GFCI recognized by UL standards

Part Number: TIDA-00637

Hello all,

Concerning the TIDA-00637 (Level 1&2 Electric Vehicle Service Equipment Reference Design)

Has the TIDA-00637 been tested with a vehicle or not?

and

Are the GFCI recognized by UL standards UL2231 and or UL50?

  • Hello Daniel,

The TIDA-00637 was developed outside of TI's Precision Amplifiers product group. This E2E forum specifically addresses the precision amplifiers and therefore we don't have detailed information about TIDA-00637.

I have contacted the developer of the TIDA-00637 design regarding your inquiry. I received an automated response indicating he is currently on vacation until the end of the month. I expect that upon his return he will be able to respond to you inquiry.

  • Hi Daniel and Thomas,

Thanks for following up with this inquire, I definitely would like to discuss with the design engineer of TIDA-00637 reference design.

I am looking for answers for questions as follows:
    1. How does the GFCI reference design be compatible with/meet UL safety standards?
    2. The other thing I want to know is that how to identify the ground fault signal must need to be detected by UL? (60 Hz Sinusoidal only? Or other types of ground fault such as alternating overlapped on direct, unidirectional pulsating overlapped on direct, multi - frequency, direct without ripple, etc)?
    3. How does TIDA-00637 detect all different types of ground fault by using a toroidal CT and GFCI circuit used in reference design?

    Thanks,
    Yizhe
  • Hi all,

Is there any recommendation for choosing GFCI?

    Thanks

    Andy

  • Hi Andy,

I have contacted the author of TIDA-00637 and asked him to respond to your inquiries about the GFCI. Let's see if he provides some recommendations.

  • Hi Thomas,

    Thank you for you help.

Is it any response from the author?

    Thanks
    Andy
  • Hi Andy,

Sorry, but I haven't recieved a response at this time. I just now elevated your request for assistance within the EV organization. I hope that helps bring about the assistance you need.

  • Hi Andy,

This afternoon I did receive a message from the EV group telling me that they are reviewing you E2E questions about TIDA-00637. Please give them a little time to work on an answer.

    Regards, Thomas

  • Hello Andy,

    Here is the response I received from the TIDA-00637 designer and author;

"Regarding that particular question, that particular design was done to show a potential architecture for GFCI. It is not UL specified due to the number of potential variables in the particular end equipment. It would be up to the customer to certify the full operation and take it in to UL."
