PMP9372: Change of design to the user requirement

Hi

Our customer is looking for reference design.

Requirement:

-Input : Li-ion 3 cell

-Output : 20V / 5A

-Fsw : 500KHz

- Synchronous controller

I think PMP9372 reference design is close to this requirement but there is difference slightly.

Could you please point out what should be changed for more appropriate design for customer's requirement?

BestRegards

  • Hi,

Take a look at the boost converter portion of PMP9484. It is designed for 7.5V to 20Vin with an output of 24V/5A. The output voltage can be adjusted by tweaking the feedback resistor network. This design runs at 145kHz. It will have a larger inductor, however, the heat sinking requirements will be significantly reduced with lower switching frequency. It will have lower switching losses in the control switch and lower body diode + reverse recovery losses in the sync switch - all of which are directly proportional to FSW.

If you want to take a look at the losses at 500kHz, Webench can assist.

    Thanks,
    Ryan
