PMP8817: Efficiency Measurement

Part Number: PMP8817
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: PMP9638,

Hi,

Customer of mine is designing a USB charger based on PMP8817 and PMP9638 reference design

As this is first time they involve in AC system, I would like to seek your advise on how measure the efficiency of the system (or in otherword, how the measurement for both reference designs being carried out?)

Secondly, What are the equipments needed?

Last, do you have the EMC result for PMP8817?

Thanks!

  • Hello Lih Khaw,

Thank you for your interest in TI reference designs.
I would recommend you to measure efficiency in the same way it has been measured in the PMP8817 user guide. Measure the input power ( Vin and Iin) and then the output power (Vout, Iout) and do the math from there, you will eliminate the possibility of losses if you use a DMM at the test points of the EVM itself.
Regarding the EMC tests, I was unable to find any results, I can ask the team who designed the board for this information but I will say the graphs were not taken. I will let you know if I hear otherwise.

    Regards,
    Sonal
  • Hi,

Thank you so much for your prompt advise.
    I understand the

In order to start with this measurement, could you advise what are the equipment needed? what I can think of are:
    - AC power supply
    - Power meter
    - AC voltage cables

Please advise if I missed out any item
    Thanks
