TINA/Spice/TPS54218: Bode plot problem using transient model

Part Number: TPS54218
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TINA-TI

Tool/software: TINA-TI or Spice Models

Average model simulation can do bode plot, but if I use transient model to do bode plot with the same method, there is always an error even other simulation can be done, like transient simulation.

Can you give me some advice about Tina using? Can transition mode be used to do bode plot? How?

  • HI Weihao,

There is a reason why average models are built to do Bode plot for switching devices. Regular spice simulators are unable to find the bias point for running loop response on a switching circuit.

Hence in order to run bode plot on a switching circuit, one of 2 things needs to be done:

    (1) Make a special model (average model), that helps a "regular" spice simulator find the necessary bias point necessary for running Bode plots. OR

    (2) Use a simulator (such as SIMPLIS) that have special analysis types (POP, PAC) to handle the bias point calculation for switching circuits.

You can find more information about Average and Transient Models in this FAQ: e2e.ti.com/.../692597

If you are new to TINA-TI, I would recommend that you go through the short Video Training series shown below. It will really help you out.
