CCS/TIDA-00489: How to flash TIDA-00489

Part Number: TIDA-00489
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CC1310

Tool/software: Code Composer Studio

Hello everybody,

I have a question regarding the possibilities to flash the TIDA-00489. From the PDF document http://www.ti.com/lit/ug/tiduau1b/tiduau1b.pdf I can see, that there is a JTAG programming interface.

  • Is there a convient way to connect this board to a USB port of a computer? Something like the SmartRF06 Eval Board but cheaper...

My second question is regarding Over-the-Air Download (OAD) to quickly update many sensors in a network. So I was thinking, there are 10 sensors and 1 collector which is connected over a gateway to the internet.

  1. Is it possible to update the TIDA Software on the sensors "from home" over the internet?
  2. Or is it at least possible to update the sensors with a laptop when I am nearby without connecting via JTAG?

Hope you guys can help me out again.

Kind regards

Stefan

  • Stefan,

Technically you can use a CC1310 LaunchPad to program the board. There is a small JTAG header on the LaunchPad which you can connect to the JTAG header on the 489 board through a ribbon cable. You can then use the on-board emulator to program the 489 board. The LaunchPad is $30 on ti.com.

Short answer yes. Long answer: you would need to update the firmware on the 489 board to a stack that supports over the air updates. Best way to approach that would be to modify an existing example. You can find two examples on the SimpleLink CC13x0 SDK: Easylink OAD and TI 15.4 stack OAD. If you already installed the SDK, these examples should be on your PC. Otherwise, head to http://dev.ti.com/tirex/#/ or check CCS.
  • Hey Guz,

using a launchpad is a good idea. I will have a look at OAD later on.

Looking at my launchpad I guess I have to use the XDS110 out and right to this pins, there is a jumper set on the position for "XDS110 Power".
