Hello,

Application in our company's machines require a section of solenoids which are pushing an object against the transportation band during certain process (up to 80-90 solenoids at one time each with same stroke, approx. 10mm) . The application requires the ability to regulate solenoid's hold force in possibly wide range (pull & hold application) and it should be possible for each solenoid independently as well as for whole sections. Controling unit needs to be ready to associate (connect) to industrial PLC which will set actual required force for each solenoid, feedback for PLC regarding present state of each solenoid is required, communication with PLC is preferred to be via one of communication protocols e.g. Modbus. We are interested in long-term cooperation in term of mentioned drivers.

    Thanks for reaching out and appreciate your interest in the TI design TIDA-00284  (which is a solenoid control design working from 230V AC).  I would propose to check out the TI design TIDA-00289 (Solenoid drive for 24V system - peak and hold current control) as well.  I need to check the available solutions with MODBUS connectivity. I will be able to support with TI solution references and TI reference designs through E2E, so that you can refer those and design your own systems.

    I will come back with any close reference design for multiple solenoid control with MODBUS and hold current regulation (if any). Also I will check is there any other way I can support you. If you are aware of any TI field engineers locally, please try to work with them as well.

  • Hi Wojciech,

    Let me add another design TIDA-01250 which uses the MSP430 controller and you have configuration to communicate through UART or IO-link. I hope these reference designs and the solenoid driver products will help you to develop the application for your requirement. You may need to use transceivers for the MODBUS communication.
    I would suggest to look at these references and let me know if you need further information.
