TIDA-01214: Question about ADS8688 and TIDA-01214 reference board

Part Number: TIDA-01214
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ADS8688, , ADS8688A

Good morning
I'm an italian engineer and I'm developing a data acquisition system for a company that manages
waste water plants. My need is to acquire data from analog sensors and your ads8688 ADC seems
good for my application. I checked you site and found your reference designed board. My purpose
is to integrate that board in the device I'm developing, which uses an ARM cortex CPU board
with SPI interface, and test it with my sensors.

My question is:
You board is available in some way and I can have one of them,
or I have to build one by myself using the reference file I can download from you site?

Thank you very much for your help.
Best regards.
Mauro Pagliarella

  • Mauro, hello and thank you for your interest in Texas Instruments and our TI Designs. I am going to forward your question to our Grid Infrastructure team in India to see if there might be an available TIDA-01214 board available. Per our TI Design strategy, only in some cases do we make our TI Designs hardware available for customers. The hardware is built to validate the design concept and provide real test results in the form of our Design Guide. While we don't make the hardware available, we provide you, the customer, with the necessary design files (schematic, Gerbers, BOM, Layer Plots) such that you can build the design yourself.

Please give us 1-2 business days to respond, and we'll get back to you with an answer. Again, thank you for your interest in Texas Instruments.

    Best Regards,
    J. Fuliilove
  • Hello Mauro Pagliarella

Thank you for the interest in ADS8688 and TIDA-01214.

I did look into how we could support the requirement.

For the testing purpose, if you do not need isolation you could consider ordering a ADS8688 EVM.

If you are looking to use TIDA-01214, the fastest way would be for you to order the boards and assemble them. We do not stock TI design and may not be able to provide a board for evaluation.

TIDA-01214 interfaces to a TI evaluation platform. If you have an ARM host, you can avoid ordering and assembling the connectors saving cost.

All the required information and data are available on TI.com for you to build the boards.

    Thanks

  • Good morning Sir.

Thank you very much for you kind and prompt replay.

Just a clarification. You wrote "... the fastest way would be for you to order the boards and assemble them ..." You mean that it is possible to order the components and also the PCB?

If this is the case, could you please tell me what is the PCB reference code?

Thank you very much for your help.

    Best regards

  • Hello Mauro Pagliarella
    Greeting to you.
My apologies in case the answer confused you.
We provide the Altium database, Gerber and BOM that you could use to order and build the boards using a third party or yourself.
Additionally, my suggestion was to order an ADS8688 EVM in case your interest was to evaluate the ADC performance with your ARM cortex CPU board with SPI interface.
    Thanks

  • Hello Sreenivasa

    Thank you for your clarification.

My need is to acquire data from analog sensors. Some of my sensors provide an output signal in the range -2000 mV, ... , +2000 mV,

while others provide a current in the range 4 mA, ... , 20 mA.

I'm not an hardware expert but, to me, your tida-01214 board seems good to acquire the signals from my sensors.

Do you think the ads8688 EVB would be better?

    Many thanks for your help.

    Regards

    Mauro

  • Hello Mauro

The recommended approach is to build the board and interface to the ARM host you have.

For the signal inputs that you are looking for, ADS8688A would be a better fit.

If you would want to quickly evaluate the performance of the ADC with the signal input, using an EVM would be good and faster.
