TIDA-01471: IEPE Vibration Sensor Interface

Part Number: TIDA-01471
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: XTR111, TLV431

 Hi Texas,

I have implemented the attached circuit, and the voltages shown have been obtained. What is the error?.

VCC24 = 24V

AVDD = 3.3V

 Thanks,

  • Dear PercyPariguana,

    According to the schematic, the XTR/VIN has ~0.7mA input current, this is not normal. input current should be in nA range. please check the R4 connectivity. it can be that the XTR111 input pin is damaged if the AVDD was ramped first before the VCC24, in that case Vin was 1.63V which is exceeding the limit of VSP+0.5V(VSP=0 at that time).

    On the other side, voltage on C1 is 1.6V, which indicates that R3 may be shorted to ground and drawing 100 mA from Q2. please check that J1 is not shorted and J3 is not shorted as well. However, it's weird that C4 has 1.67V higher than R3! is J3 conneted to any source or sensor?

    The voltages seems like short problems, is the board hand soldered?

    Kind Regards,

    Ahmed

  •  Dear Ahmed,

    I changed the chip, and following your recommendations is that I observe the presence of a signal by giving small hits to the accelerometer. Thank you.

    I will continue implementing other stages of the circuit.

    The board is hand soldered using a hot air station.

    Best Regards,

    Percy

  • Hello PercyPariguana,

    Thanks for the update! good news.

    As you are still evaluating the design, I would recommend exploring other alternatives to current source circuit. if a fixed current is needed, a TLV431 may be used as a reference along with a buffer, if a variable current is required, a dual opamp circuit can also do the job pretty well. as indicated in the user guide, XTR111 can inject some noise and deteriorate the overall signal chain performance.

    Cheers,

    Ahmed
