How does UCC28064A maintain high efficiency at light and heavy loads in high powered AC/DC conversion in Industrial applications?

  • PMP21366 is a TI Power Reference Design solution that helps develop high efficiency and cost effective power solutions for numerous mid to high power (300W~700W) AC/DC rectifiers.

For AC/DC rectifiers that require low system height, low radiated electromagnetic interference (EMI) and greater than 300 watts output power, an interleaved transition mode Power Factor Correction (PFC) controller, such as UCC28064A, is preferred. Also, an interleaved transition mode PFC will provide reduced output current ripple by seamlessly synchronizing dual phases, thus leading to smaller bulk capacitors and higher system reliability.

In addition to aforementioned benefits that an interleaved transition mode PFC can provide, UCC28064A enables burst mode operation at light-load to boost light-load efficiency without the need to turn off the PFC during light load operation. This is particularly advantageous to help meet certain offline standards (i.e.: 80PLUS) with light load efficiency requirements.

Each of these features is demonstrated in the PMP21366 Reference Design, which can be paired with additional TI controllers to power numerous industrial applications.

To learn more about the performance of this reference design under typical and stress test conditions, refer to section 2 "Testing and Results" of the User Guide for PMP21366.
