TIDA-01093: TIDA-01093

Part Number: TIDA-01093
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ISO1541, BQ76930

Dear  All:

I  design the 20s  BMS  as the  TIDA-01093 , I have  2  question about the TI design. As below shown

   1. I think  the  MCU  SDA , CLK  signal  can  through the Q9, Q10  parasitic diode to connect the BQ76930, that can't by the  I2C_CTRL_B  control. Is it right?

2. in the I2C isolation application  with the ISO1541,  I think   there is   only needs one power   cut off the communication. Why do you need to control both power sources?  I2C_CTRL_B_U& I2C_EN_U?

  • Hi Bill,

For question #1, I believe the lower BQ76930 device SCL/SDA pins will see the high pull-up voltage when Q9 and Q10 are disabled, so there will be no communication to the bottom device.

For question #2, it is best to turn off power for both sides of the ISO device. It draws some current and it will cause an imbalance of current being drawn more from the top cells or bottom cells and waste power.

    Best regards,
    Matt
