TIDA-010047: About FET for SR

Part Number: TIDA-010047

Hello E2E,

Please le me know about TIDA-010047.
I suggested this reference design to customer. They were interested in it.
If possible, I want to do recommend TI's Nch-FET to them. However, competitor's FET is used on SR for TID.

In this TID, is 100V withstand FET unsuitable?

Regards,
ACGUY

  • Hello ACGUY,
Thanks for promoting TI FETs at your customer. I am not the design owner of TIDA-010047 but I did look thru the documentation: www.ti.com/.../tiduem3.pdf. On page 12 there are details on the transformer turns ratio which uses the breakdown voltage of the SR FET. Based on this, I don't think a 100V FET will work. I am going to check with the SEM team to see what they think.
  • Hi John, Acguy,

Thanks for your efforts on TI design promotion.

It is not suggested to use 100V-FET as the SR FET if the design is fully based on TIDA-010047.

The root cause is from the D-S voltage rating, the D-S voltage should withstand the reflected voltage from primary side plus the output voltage.

If the input voltage range is lower and the output voltage is lower, you can calculate it and then decide to use or not.

    Thanks very much!

    BR
