TIDA-01093: Cell series limit in TIDA-01093

Part Number: TIDA-01093
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ76940, BQ76930

Hello All,

In TIDA-01093 Can we make 13 cell series?

As mention in features it supports 16-20 series. can I make series less than 16 series?

Please, also need minimum limit of cell series which supports TIDA-01093.

waiting for earliest reply,

Best regards,

Prathamesh Patil

  • Hi Prathamesh,
    For a 13s battery, why don't you use 1 BQ76940 (which is a 15s monitor)?
We have a quite a few TI Designs available including a 13s one which you can find here.

  • Hello David,

    Thanks for your suggestion.

actually  I want to know In TIDA-01093 i want to make 13 series to 20 series.

Please help me can I make 13 series in particular TIDA-01093.

If it is possible then what will be effect ?

Please tell me is it possible or not?

    waiting for earliest reply,

    Best regards,

  • Dear David ,

Actually what we are trying to do in our design is , we want same single PCB to be used for 13s  to 20s scenarios.

We do not want to make 2 different Pcb's using Bq76940 for 15s  &  using two Bq76930 for 20s, we are planning to make single Pcb having two Bq76930  which will serve for both 13s & 20s. So  please comment can we do or not ?

So request you to please comment in this regards , can we make single Board which should work for both (20s) & 13s as well or not ?

    Rohit

  • Hi Rohit,

Yes, this is possible. Each BQ76930 device can support a minimum of 6 cells, so I recommend configuring for 7 cells on the bottom device and 6 cells on the top of the device for a 13s configuration.

Since you plan to modify for board to support 13s to 20s, you will want to refer to Table 25 of the datasheet to understand the cell connections for reducing the cell count. The EVM User Guide for BQ76930 also has a very helpful section on Reducing the Cell Count with examples on how to modify the board. One important thing is that you will need to short certain cells together at the device pins and at the battery cell input terminals.

    I hope this is helpful,

    Matt
