PMP30338: NMOS role and charging power

Part Number: PMP30338

Hello experts,

I got question about this design from customer.
1. The impact of not having two NMOS
In this reference design, there are two NMOS.
What will be the impact of not having these two NMOS.
My customer is thinking about simplifying this part
2. Charging power of this IC
My cutsomer wants to know the cherging power of thi IC for various type of mobile phone/tablets.
If you have such a report, is it possible to share?
Thanks and best regards,
Ryo Akashi
  • Hi Ryo,

    1. The NMOS parts are used to connect the output of the power supply to the USBC Bus.  They are required for compliance to the USB C specification.

When a source device is not connected to the output, the voltage at the end of the cable must be 0V.  That is the purpose of those parts.

    2. That information is dependent on the device being charged. The IC will put out a maximum of 3A depending on the contract that is negotiated.

    Thanks,

    Robert
