WEBENCH® Tools/PMP8016: need to design a full assembled model

Part Number: PMP8016

Tool/software: WEBENCH® Design Tools

hello all,

i want to design a led driver board using TPS92640 or TPS92641 (100 watt input,up to 40 A output). The idea is that both of them are not found on webenech software so i need some help here.i know also about pmp8016 reference design for  TPS92641 ( https://www.ti.com/tool/PMP8016

  • Hello,

There only information at higher current output is the PMP8016 and possibly other TI designs that use this part.  Webench would be of limited use for a design such as this.  The board information exists for PMP8016 so it can be built as tested.  This can be a starting point.  A 40A design is more about the external power design than the TPS92640/641 design.  If you are designing for 100W input and 40A is your output voltage lower than 2.5V?  Is this for driving an LED?

    Best Regards,

  • hello dear,

yes all of what you said is true but i need a 3.6 v output not 2.6 v.

can you give me some advise on how to start designing this model and which type of software shall i use and do you guys support such design?

    best regards,

  • Hello,

3.6V at 40A is 144W output.  I came up with less than 2.5V from 100W input, output power would be 100W/efficiency.  We don't have design tools for high current such as this.  This becomes a design of the power stage with the controller driving it.  There are certain things to watch for such as gate drive capability, MOSFET selection is very important as well as operating conditions such as switching frequency.  This design can be done with proper layout techniques.  40A on a PCB requires thoughtful design work.

  • Hello,

I haven’t heard back from you, I’m assuming you were able to resolve your issue.
If not, just post a reply below (or create a new thread if the thread has locked due to time-out)

  • hello sir,

sorry for being late to respond.I chose another led that needs a power of 100 watt(3.6 v with 28 A) so the led drive pmp8016 can be modeled to reach that power.so what do you advise me?ca you give me a hint about the first step like what software i can use.

  • Hello,

PMP8016 is a functioning design, you could build per the design files and modify it to your preference.  You can model a synchronous buck converter since this is a controller.  The design is more about the power stage at these current levels.  Just note the gate drive capability and dead-time of the TPS92640/641

    Best Regards,

  • how can i get the design files for pmp8016 and what is their format?what can of software opens these files?can iuse MAtlab/Simulink?

  • Hello,

If you search PMP8016 and click technical documents the files are there to create the board.  I believe these were done in Altium, however the CAD files for building the boards should be usable at the board houses.
