TIDA-010054: Coupled inductor

Part Number: TIDA-010054

Hi,
could you explain why did you use 74436413300 coupling inductor? The saturation current of this component is only 6A, while the primary transformer current go to 20A.
Is there any reason why e.g. 7443643300 has not used. This inductor have bettery saturation current 11.5A and still enough high maximum current.

Regards,
Grzegorz

  • Grzegorz, hello and good day.  We have received your inquiry regarding the TIDA-010054 reference design. The design owner for this reference design is located in India, and it is already Friday evening there.  As is such, please give us 1-2 business days for a response to your inquiry here.

  • Hi,

Those inductors which are used are actually DC inductors and can handle only 40% ripple current around average value. These were used in this design for proto testing only for low power levels upto 1-2 KW only. I would recommend to not use these inductors as in DAB the tank current at high power levels as these tend to get heated pretty quickly because these are not designed to handle the full flux swing. The tank current is pure AC waveform (with average value being 0) over a switching cycle. So as this AC current increases, the RMS value increases and produces more heating. The core of these inductors is not optimal to handle this

Hence in the final release of this design we have modified to have this leakage inductance built into the transformer. Please take look at the attached specification document with inductor built into the transformer. Please let me know if you require any clarifications.

  • Thank you for answer and documentation. Did you test this integrated solution? What is the saturation current of this inductor?
