WEBENCH® Tools: circuit against short

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS1663, TPS2660, TPS2663, TPS2595, TPS2596

Tool/software: WEBENCH® Design Tools

Hello

I got requirement to develop a new project, I think you can help me with that:)

I looking a chip or circuit against short (prefer a not discrete solution). I need it for:

4 output 28V@1A.

one output 12V@100mA.

One output 28V@100mA.

Please advise

Thank you

Ilya

  • Hi Ilya,

You can use WEBENCH ( http://www.ti.com/webench ) to design power supply for each of your outputs separately. Currently WEBENCH does not support multi-output designs.

You can also check out TI's PMIC products for single IC solutions. If you would like design help or product recommendations - please post in appropriate forum.

    Regards,

    Srikanth

  • Hi Srikanth

Please suggest to me a one chip against short for one output.

On the WEBENCH unfortunate I'm lost. Please help me

    Thank you

    Ilya

  • Hello Ilya,

Is my understanding correct, that you are searching for an IC that controls 6 different output voltages at once? Please specify your input voltage.

What do you mean with "one chip against short for one output"?

  • Hi Ilya,

I'm an applications engineer from TI's integrated power management team. To see if we have a suitable integrated power solution, I'll need some more information about the application. This includes Brigitte's questions:

    • What is the PMIC powering (what is the load on these rails)?
    • What is the input voltage?
    • What do you mean by "circuit against short"?

    Thanks,

    Gerard

  • Hello TI

    as i wrote,

I got requirement to develop a new project, I think you can help me with that:)

i need development a box that have 6 outputs.

    4 output 28V@1A.

    one output 12V@100mA.

    One output 28V@100mA.

For these ports I have to do circuit against short.

I looking a chip or circuit against short (prefer a not discrete solution).

    Please advise

    Thank you

    Ilya

  • Hi Ilya,

I understand that the power supply requires 6 outputs. Please help me with the following questions so that I can check if we have a suitable integrated solution:

    1. Could you please share what the input voltage will be?
    2. Please clarify what you mean by "circuit against short". Do the outputs required short-circuit protection features?

    Thanks,

    Gerard

  • Hi

    I got requirements for development:

input- The board should operate normally at supply voltage 10-32V@5A.

    Output -

     A.    8 outputs-high side switch,28V@1A per channel ,

    1. The part should have status feedback
    2. With short circuit protect

    B.    4 outputs- low side switch, 28V@0.5A

      1. The part should have status feedback
      2. With short circuit protected

     C.    The clutch driver should be 3A nominal with short circuit protected

    D. 8 inputs 28V with EMC and ESD protection

Unfortunately i don't know what is "short circuit protect", maybe it is part of  high side switch and low side switch.

and what is clutch driver with with short circuit protected.

Maybe you can help me and sagest solution.

    Thank you

    Ilya

  • Hi Ilya,

Unfortunately, these power requirements cannot be met with a single integrated solution. These are at least four high power (28 V @  1A) outputs, which are much more difficult to integrate into a single package.

TI does have a broad portfolio of discrete controllers and converters that may be able to meet your application requirements. I suggest taking a look at some of these products starting here:

    https://www.ti.com/power-management/non-isolated-dc-dc-switching-regulators/overview.html

It also sounds like you'll be needing several high and low-side switches in your design. As such I will put you in touch with our power switch team for any questions or suggestions regarding these components.

    Thanks,

    Gerard

  • Hi Ilya,

eFuse devices provide ouput short circuit protection along with FLT/ pin to indicate a Fault event in the system.

    • For 28V rail you can consider using TPS2660 , TPS1663 or TPS2663 family of devices
    • For 12V rail, you can have a look at TPS2595 and TPS2596

All these devices are single channel.
