TIDA-010042: Battery not going to charge

Part Number: TIDA-010042

Hello,

I have made hardware as TIDA-010042 design as is.

I have connected 12amp 7ah  battery(C35) and 24watt DC led light for the load and for the solar panel I am using 14V 4ah PSU.

Whenever I am staring at the MCU then power supply giving a supply @ 2.5A and then after 6 to 7 minutes load gets disable due to battery cut off voltage.

After that battery takes a current of only 100mA  and load still disabled. But in some time Battery voltage increases and that time load try to enable.

Withing moment load is going disable and battery voltage is going lower to 5V.

I have two questions.

1. why battery voltage is going higher and get lower at the moment?

2. Why load get enable and get disable suddenly? I have also checked using breakpoint at Battery reconnect counter but it is not going inside that loop.

Please help me what could be the problem

Regards

Pulkit

  • Pulkit, hello and good day.  We have received your question and it has been forwarded to the applicable design owner on our Grid Infrastructure team.  Please accept or apologies. The question was initially forwarded to the wrong team when initially received and we have corrected that.  Please allow us 1-2 business days to thoroughly review and respond to your question.

  • Hi Pulkit,

From your description of the problem, it looks like a problem with the battery. A 7 AH Lead acid battery can typically be charged only at a maximum of 1.4A (C/5). So, if we try to charge it with higher currents, the internal impedance of the battery will raise the terminal voltage and that will cause the charger to switch to CV mode charging. The CV mode charging could be low current.

The load disconnect happens only if the load taken is more than the set current limit. I think too much load is being connected to the battery, or the current limit is set too low for the required load.

  • Hi, salil,

    Thanks for the reply.

Yes, You are correct. We have faced problems due to the battery is so much discharged.

I have charged battery for some hours and after that, I have attached it to the charge controller.

Now everything works perfectly except one thing. Whenever I am detaching the PSU(Solar Panel) than LED panel(Load) is getting flicker.

If I am not attaching the PSU and running charge controller using battery only then the also same problem occurs.

What could be the possible cause? Should I change something in the software?

  • Hi Pulkit,

Normally this should not happen. Please check if the battery voltage is not reducing below undervoltage level set.

  • Hello Salil,

Yes, you correct. It is solved.
