Hello

Hope you will be fine. i am using bq76PL536A-Q1 for designing my BMS system. i need some help regarding the hardware design. i saw the recommended design in the user manual (attachment no1)

But i saw some other design which have some changes in the cell balancing circuit ( attachment no 2) . can you please help me for designing the hardware for good efficiency.

  • Hi Zeeshan,

Ultimately the cell balancing design depends on what you want to accomplish with cb current, thermals, and cost. First off, I would recommend using bq79606a-q1 for new designs as it is our latest part for this application and provides similar features with integrated passive cell balancing (so no need for external FETs if you dont need higher current) and more robust communications, functional safety etc. Once you decide how much current you want and cost limitations, then we can help decide the best design.

    Regards,

    Taylor

  • Hi Taylor

I am using BQ76PL536A-Q1 for my bms. I am having battery bank of 1.5 kw  48 V. I want to have balancing current of 1 A.

Kindly recommend me the design for this rating.

  • Hi Zeeshan,

We do not provide custom cell balancing designs for this part through this forum - we provide the example design recommendations in the user guide/datasheet and then allow the flexibility for customer to design using external FETs of their choice but do not provide other recommendations as we have not tested them to ensure it would meet your requirements. If you find a CB FET that can handle the current and choose a high power, lower resistor value - we are happy to review the design after the fact and then you would need to ensure validation occurs on your side to test out the design.

    Taylor

  • Hi Taylor

How much maximum cell balancing current we can get from this device.

    BR

  • Hi Zeeshan,

This devices does not have integrated balancing FETs. The function of the CB pins in the device is to control the gate of an external FET and therefore the path of the balancing current is not through our device. The balancing current is determined by the external balance resistor that you pick, and you need to make sure that the resistor and the FET power rating is enough to handle the balancing current you chose.

  • Hi

Thanks i understand the balancing concept. I need to ask one more thing as shown in the attachment in the balancing circuit LC filter is used. How can we select he proper LC filter. And can we use this filter for all models of BQ76PL536.

      BR

  • Hi Zeeshan,

Is this your own schematic? Also, I'm not sure which specific circuit you are referring to. Please let me know the component numbers in the schematic that you are asking about.

    Best regards,

    Leslie

  • Hi

i found this schematic on internet. i am  asking for the LC filters  (EB100   C105). What should be the rating of that LC circuit ans whats the purpose of using this circuit.

    Best Regards

  • Hi Zeeshan,

These LC filters are not included in our reference schematic in the datasheet. Please rely on the datasheet for external component selections.

    Best Regards,
