TIDA-00096: Can the arduino uno be replaced for a TI MCU?

Part Number: TIDA-00096
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TIDA-01580, , TIDA-010029, MSP430FG439, CC2541

I am working on a senior design project that is working with an ecg to monitor heartbeats and we're looking to purchase one of our systems. We're looking at the TIDA-00096, TIDA-01580, TIDA-010029, and the circuit that interfaces with the MSP430FG439. Are any of these able to interface with an arduino uno board instead of the MCUs listed?

I have been working with a representative under another email (Case CS0360477) and was advised the following and cannot find any information about the MCUs used by TI:

Regarding your inquiry, on my checking the reference designs that you intend to use are Wireless MCU's with BLE functions. If the arduino that you will be using is of the same kind, please note the timing requirements of your AFE that would match the arduino processor. Please note these reference designs is tested based on the list of parts given. Replacing it with different parts is subject to your own testing.

  • Julia, hello and good afternoon.  First of all, I'd like to apologize for the late response regarding your thread. One of the key problems with the subject design is  it is a very old design (~5 years) and the original designer appears to have left the company. I did check with the owner of the TIDA-01580 and was advised similar to what you hear from our other colleague. As these designs were tested to validate the results shown on TI.com, we would guaranty their results when the designs are replicated with the exact same components.  When swapping out any components, we would need to retest and recertify test results to appropriately answer your question.  While there may be the possibility to interface with and Arduino instead of an MCU, we haven't set that up and tested it to be sure. I'm going to forward your question over to the MCU team to see if they may be able to assist.

  • Thank you so much! We are looking into just going ahead and purchasing the mcu as we don't have that large of a timeframe to complete this project. Looking through the products I'm a little confused on which hardware components will be needed to work the MCU? For example for the TIDA-00096 does the CC2541 need additional hardware to produce the ECG output?
