WEBENCH® Tools/SN65HVD75: TVS selection of SN65HVD75

Tool/software: WEBENCH® Design Tools

A product of our company uses the SN65HVD75 design circuit, but the TVS is damaged during the customer's use. The design circuit is as shown below (the signal line is not connected in series with 100Ω). Now we are ready to choose between CPDQC12VE-HF and SESD0402X1BN-0015-096. Which TVS do you think is better?

Hi,

I don't think CPDQC12VE-HF is suitable here since its 19~23V clamping voltage is higher than the abs max of SN65HVD75 (-13V/16.5V). If you want to have better ESD level, you may want to consider SM712.

What about the TVS SESD0402X1BN-0015-096?But according to the link you recommended before: e2e.ti.com/.../how-to-choose-a-tvs-diode-for-rs-232- rs-485-and-can-based-on-voltage-ratings. The link indicates that this value can be slightly larger.

Hi,

A slightly larger means the peak voltage might be 1V to 2V higher than the abs max. Based on the datasheet, 19V is the clamping voltage for only 1A current.
