Components suggestion for PCB design

To who it may concern,

I am designing a PCB that will have a signal generator that will send a signal, along several balancing lines, to the main PCB in order for the main PCB to be able to detect a disruption on any of the balancing lines, should the signal not reach the main PCB.

My request is whether you are able to suggest to me any component that acts as a signal generator, along with an MCU to which the component will be connected and I also require an ambient pressure sensor which will be in the main PCB monitoring the pressure inside the battery module.

Summarising everything here is what I need.

1) Signal generator

2) Ambient pressure sensor

2) MCU microcontroller (to be able to control the signal generator, ambient pressure sensor, temperature sensor, and battery monitoring)

They all have to be AEC-Q100 qualified.

Thanks,

Regards,

Giorgio

  • Hello Giorgio,

Thank you for using E2E for your design questions.  To address your questions, you will have to provide more details concerning the design requirements.  For example, a signal generator, of what frequency?   A detailed block diagram of these functions and how they are used would be a good starting point.

I suggest you also review the many Reference Designs available, you might find one that is similar to what you are describing:  https://www.ti.com/reference-designs/index.html .

  • Hi Leonard,

Thanks for your message and sorry for the late reply.

Let's consider for a moment just the signal generator now, so far I haven't made any decision regarding the frequency or other aspects, I am just looking at different options.
What I need is a component that generates a signal which will be sent down a line and it will be read by another PCB, are you able to suggest some components that could work so that I can take a look and start to think on how to develop my design?

    Regards,

    Giorgio

  • Hello Giorgio,

Do you just want to send a single frequency signal, or transfer data between the two PCBs?

If a single frequency, explore the Clocks portfolio: www.ti.com/clocks-timing/overview.html .

If transferring data, there are a number of protocols that could be implemented. You will have to determine the appropriate protocol for your design, so I suggest you explore the Interface devices: www.ti.com/interface/overview.html .

  • Hi Leonard,

I need to send a single frequency signal, thanks for sharing the clock portfolio, I see that there are different options.

At the moment I am only exploring the different options without going too much into details, I am only looking for pros and cons, but the component must be AEC-Q qualified for automotive.

Are you able to quickly direct me to some AEC-Q qualified components? In the filter area, I am not able to filter to only display the AEC-Q components which makes things very hard.

Thank you very much for your help,

    Regards,

    Giorgio

  • Hello Giorgio,

On the Clock Generator page you mentionwww.ti.com/clocks-timing/generators/products.html#p1498=Automotive , select the RATING filter, check AUTOMOTIVE and you will see those -Q1 devices.
