TIDA-010208: Diode at PACK+,- pins

In TIDA-010208 (Page-6), the writer has used D47. What will happen if a charger is connected in reverse polarity? Attached is the image of the section I am referring to. Please clarify the purpose of D47.

    When charger is attached reversely, D47 will forward conduct and clamp the minimum voltage. Normally chargers has CC-CV control and won't allow the current to increase too high to damage D47. 

    D47 here is to support a path to prevent PACK+ voltage much lower than PACK-, this scenario happens with two situations: 1) charger is attached reversely; 2) PACK+ is short to PACK- and there is a larger parasitic inductance on PCB and external short wire, the inductance will generate a huge reverse voltage when DSG MOSFETs are turning off (with huge di/dt). And this reverse voltage will bee added to the total battery voltage and damage DSG MOSFET if your MOSFETs' max VDS voltage is not high enough.
