Dear Sir/Madam,

We would like to simulate thermo-mechanical effects on ADAS sensors and validate our models with tests on the physical components. For that purpose, we pre-selected a camera (TIDA-00421) and a radar (TIDEP-01012) from your reference designs.

However, we have several questions related to them.

Related to the camera module (TIDA-00421), our recording system can receive FPD-Link III data from the camera.
- Are there additional related components/designs needed in the measurement chain?
- Which component would you recommend to replace the serializer DS90UB913A-Q1 which is marked as not available in the TIDA-00421 design?
Related to the radar (TIDEP-01012), I see two different designs on the website.
- Would you recommend us the MMWCAS-RF-EVM ($ 1099)?
- Are there other components/designs needed in the measurement chain to get a CAN-FD output signal for our acquisition system?
All kind of data or training material that you can share with us on the designs are also welcome to refine our thermo-mechanical models, for instance:
- global mechanical characteristics of the component (approximate Young modulus of the chip and of the legs)
- thermal properties of the main constitutive material for a 3D model of the PCB.

Could you please create a new thread for the camera questions?

Why did you decide to use the TIDEP-01012 vs other mmWave platforms such as xWR1843/xWR6843?

The TIDEP-01012 is a closed system purposed to capture raw data. It will be challenging to add CAN-FD support

I've just created a new thread related to the camera.

Considering the radar, we made a quick pre-selection based on what we could find on your website (considering what was also available for sale). It is not a definitive choice. If you can advise us another model that can more easily support CAN-FD output, this can interest us of course.

Which reference model and components would you recommend us for a measurement chain from the radar to the CAN-FD?

Hi Cesar,

Thanks for your advice. So after having read your message and had a look at the documentation, if I have well understood I can summarize the info in the following way.

We can buy the AWR1843BOOST board (€ 245.80), that comprises:
- the AWR1843 radar and antenna;
- the associated programmable electronics (via the USB port?);
- an integrated CAN port.
We however need an external power supply (5V, >2.5 A) to feed the board via the barrel jack (center positive).
Software is available for download to program the PCB to send output information over CAN.

Is this correct? Are there other components needed to be able to make the radar work and acquire the information over CAN-FD with our data acquisition system? Is the software available for free or must it be purchased as well?

Hi,

You are correct. You will need to purchase a power supply.

The software is free.

A few more questions.

Do you have any requirements regarding how many TX you need to enable at the same time?

Hi,

We have demos that enable one Tx at one time and we also have demos that enable 3Tx at the same time.

The more Tx are enabled the more power is emitted

Hi,

Regarding the amount of Tx lines, are you talking about the antennas that send the radar waveform in the environment?

We are not 100% familiar with the implementation of the TI radar, but we guess more is better?

Is this a choice we need to make now or can we change our mind later by changing a setting in the software?

There are two locations for mmWave demos

1) MMWAVE-SDK Software development kit (SDK) | TI.com

It includes a general purpose demo. Instructions to flash the demo and run the Visualizer is provided in the

C:\ti\mmwave_sdk_03_05_00_04\docs\mmwave_sdk_user_guide.pdf

This demo enables 1 TX at a time

2) TI Resource Explorer Automotive Toolbox
